PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College volleyball freshman libero Amanda Little (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) was named the Division I National Independent Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week today for her performance this past week. The award marks the third time this season she has been cited accordingly.
Little averaged a team-leading 8.33 digs per game and totaled 25 digs in three matches this past week, leading PC to a 3-0 road win at Quinnipiac. In the win on Oct. 26, Little had a team-high 25 digs to go along with two kills and two assists.
Additionally, Little is ranked third the nation with 526 digs, tops among Division I student-athletes. She also is ranked No. 21 on the NCAA leader board as she averages 5.42 digs per game.
"Amanda gets better with every match and it has been a pleasure to watch her mature as a player every day," said Head Coach Margot Royer. "Her play, especially over the second half of the season, has been key to the day-to-day improvement of our program, and I'm really excited about what the future holds for her and Providence Volleyball."
For the season, Little has totaled a team-leading 526 digs to average 5.42 over 97 games and 27 matches. Her total is the highest PC single-season mark ever. Little has surpassed the Friars' single-season dig record of 464, set in 1998 by Sarah Katinger '02.
With a victory in its last outing, Providence volleyball (5-22) heads to North Carolina this weekend. The Friars will play in the Gardner-Webb Tournament beginning on Friday, Nov. 4 with a 6:00 p.m. match against North Carolina A&T.
