PROVIDENCE, R.I. - PROVIDENCE, R.I. - On Friday, October 21, the Providence College women's soccer team was defeated by Pittsburgh by a score of 1-0. Sophomore goalkeeper Laura Elfers recorded ten saves in net for PC.
Providence's best scoring opportunity came in the 64th minute when freshman Kelly Pettersen (Massapequa, N.Y.) fed a pass to sophomore Ashley Amaral (Cumberland, R.I.) whose shot was deflected off the post. Just five minutes later, freshman Megan Mancarella (Rochester, N.Y.) had a chance to put PC on the board when her header went off the crossbar.
In the 72nd minute, Pittsburgh's Erica Wright blasted a shot that Elfers pushed back out into the box. The Panthers' Corina Sebesta grabbed the rebound and sent a shot to the lower left corner to give Pitt the game's only goal.
