PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team (2-7) posted a 3-0 victory (30-16, 30-25, 30-24) over Gardner-Webb (3-6) in Day One of the Providence College Friar Tournament this evening in Mullaney Gymnasium at Alumni Hall. In the nightcap, Morgan State defeated a tough Quinnipiac squad, 3-2.
In the Friars win, senior captain Ayana Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.) led the team with 16 kills, while sophomore Kerry Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) added 10 kills. Junior Annie Fiorvanti (Northport, N.Y.) had a team-high 29 assists, while senior Jennifer Backes (Seaford, N.Y.) tallied a team-leading nine digs.
Ashley Pridgeon led the Gardner-Webb offense with 8 kills and Melanie Custer totaled 22 assists.
Day Two of the Providence College Friar Tournament will resume tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. The remaining tournament schedule is as follows.
