Cal State Fullerton senior outside hitter Lauren Goins smashed a match-high 16 kills and the Titans served up 14 aces on the night as host Fullerton opened the 2004 Four Points Sheraton Titan Classic with a 3-0 (30-13, 30-21, 30-14) victory over Providence College on Friday night at Titan Gym.
The Titans improved to 4-1 overall on the season while the Friars fell to 1-5 overall.
Three Titans had four aces on the night as Carley Dial, Sarah Morrison, and Jenna Carney all contributed from the service line. Morrison served the Titans to seven consecutive points in game one while Carney took over in games two and three, serving five consecutive points in game two to reach game point and then serving 15 of the Titans' final 16 points in game three.
Fullerton hit .286 for the match - including a .370 clip in game one. Providence, on the other hand, hit -.011 for the match.
The Friars were led by Ayana Cadres' 10 kills.
The Titans were also strong at the net, outblocking Providence 15-8, including nine blocks by senior Tiffany Dolven - three of those solo blocks.
Providence volleyball returns to action Saturday, Sept. 11 with a pair of matches beginning at 4:00 p.m.
