NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Providence College men's golf team placed 11th of 24 schools at the Yale Men's Spring Open at the Yale Golf Course in New Haven, Conn. on April 6-7.
Providence shot a two-day, two-round total of 648 (318-330). The Friars were 44 strokes behind Yale, which won the Open with a score of 604 (303-301) on the 6,749 yard, par-70 course.
The Friars were led by freshmen Jonathan Pirie of East Greenwich, R.I. (79-79--158) and Steve Woelfel of Norwood, Mass. (81-77--158) who each finished tied for 27th place. PC's other golfers were senior Chris Tobey of Hopkinton, Mass. (tied 42nd, 75-86--161), freshman Kevin McGrath of Upper Montclair, N.J. (tied 79th, 83-88--171) and senior Steve O'Brien of Cranston, R.I. (112th, 92-95--187).
Yale's Alex Fulton won the individual title with a score of 149 (73-76).
The Friars will return to action on Aril 13-14 at the New England Division I Championships at Triggs Golf Course in Providence, R.I.
