WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The Providence College men's golf team opened its fall schedule with an 11th-place finish of 20 schools at the Black Knight Invitational at the West Point Golf Course in West Point, N.Y. on September 23.
Providence shot a two-day, two-round total of 619 (299-320). The Friars were 49 strokes behind Army, which won the Invitational with a score of 570 (287-283) on the 6,036 yard, par-70 course.
The Friars were led by seniors Chris Tobey (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Chris Hynes (Warwick, R.I.) who tied for 18th with as they each shot 71-78--149. PC's other golfers were freshman Steve Woelfel of Norwood, Mass. (78-83--161), senior Steve O'Brien of Cranston, R.I. (79-83--162) and freshman Kevin McGrath of Upper Montclair, N.J. (84-81--165)
Army's Ryan Hazelton won the individual title with a score of 140 (72-68).
The Friars will return to action on October 1-3 at the Adams Cup Invitational at the Newport Country Club in Newport, R.I. and the Point Judith Country Club in Point Judith, R.I.
