PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's volleyball team was defeated in their BIG EAST Conference opener by the University of Pittsburgh, 3-0, at Peterson Recreation Center on the Providence, R.I. campus.
The Panthers (4-5 overall/1-0 BIG EAST) were led by Wendy Hatlestad, who recorded a match-high 14 kills in the three-game victory. Teammate Gini Illery added 10 kills and seven digs with Pitt as a team totalled 10 blocks and 11 aces.
The Friars (1-8/0-1 BIG EAST) had two players reach double-figure kills as senior Sarah Katinger (Stratford, Conn.) and freshman Ayana Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.) each added 10 kills in the defeat.
Providence hosts West Virginia University on Sunday, September 23 at 2:00 p.m. in the Peterson Recreation Center.
