PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's volleyball team was defeated by Villanova, 3-1, in a BIG EAST Conference volleyball match.
The Friars won the first game of the match, 30-28, over the Wildcats but then fell 30-26, 3-25 and 30-28 in the next three games.
Senior outside hitter Sarah Katinger (Stratford, Conn.) led all players with 24 kills and added 16 kills in the loss. Classmate Annie Cella (Burr Ridge, Ill.) added 20 kills and chipped in with 12 digs. Friar freshman Ayana Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.) contributed 15 kills, three service aces and seven blocks.
Both teams scored points off of service aces as Villanova totalled 13 aces and Providence had 11 aces. Leah Mathews totalled six aces for the Wildcats and junior Daniella Miele (Huntington, N.Y.) and Cadres each contributed three aces.
The Friars (2-11 overall/0-4 BIG EAST) returns to action on Tuesday, October 2 when they travel to Holy Cross for a 7:00 p.m. match.
