Men's Golf Finishes 17th At Adams Cup

NEWPORT, R.I. -- The Providence College men's golf team finished 17th at the prestigious Adams Cup at the Point Judith Country Club and Newport Country Club on October 2-3. Providence shot a two-day, three-round total of 947 (317-317-313). The Adams Cup was won by the University of New Mexico with a score of 854 (280-281-293) on the 6,735 yard, par-70 course.

The Friars were led by seniors Chris Hynes (Warwick, R.I.) and senior Chris Tobey (Hopkinton, Mass.) who were tied for 58th with a score of 228. Hynes shot 80-71-77 and Tobey shot 73-79-76 for the three rounds. PC's other golfers were senior Steve O'Brien of Cranston, R.I. (86th, 76-83-87--246), freshman Stephen Woelfel of Norwood, Mass. (87th, 88-84-78--250) and freshman Kevin McGrath of Upper Montclair, N.J. (88th, 88-87-82--257).

Mark Donnell of Vanderbilt and Wil Collins of New Mexico finished tied for the individual title with a score of 207. Donnell shot 68-69-70 and Collins shot 68-69-70.

The Friars will return to action on October 13-14 at the Yale Fall Invitational in New Haven, Conn.
