BREWSTER, Mass. -- The Providence College men's golf team finished tied for eighth at the 67th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Championship at The Captain's Golf Course in Brewster, Mass., on October 22-23. Providence shot a two-day, two-round total of 620 (315-305). The New England Intercollegiate Golf Championship was won by the University of Rhode Island with a score of 584 (287-297) on the 6,724 yard, par-72 course.
The Friars were led by freshman Stephen Woelfel (Norwood, Mass.) who finished tied for 19th with a score of 152 (81-71). PC's other golfers were senior Chris Hynes of Warwick, R.I. (tied 24th, 77-76--153), senior Chris Tobey of Hopkinton, Mass. (tied 39th, 80-76--156), senior Steve O'Brien of Cranston, R.I. (tied 58th, 77-82--159) and freshman Kevin McGrath of Upper Montclair, N.J. (tied 129th, 85-85--170).
Dean Carrigan of Hartford won the individual title with a score of 140 (71-69).
The New England Intercollegiate Championship marked the Friars' final match of the fall season. The team will return to action in the spring.
