Men's Golf Finishes 13th At MacDonald Cup

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Providence College men's golf team finished earned a 13th-place finish of 16 schools at the Yale's MacDonald Cup at the Yale Golf Course in New Haven, Conn. on October 14.

Providence shot a two-day, two-round total of 647 (317-330). The Friars were 52 strokes behind Johnson & Wales (Fla.), which won the MacDonald Cup with a score of 595 (288-307) on the 6,749 yard, par-70 course.

The Friars were led by seniors Chris Hynes (Warwick, R.I.) and Chris Tobey (Hopkinton, Mass.) who tied for 36th. Hynes finished with a two-day total of 156 (74-82) and Tobey also shot a 156 (81-75). PC's other golfers were junior Ryan Shaw of E. Longmeadow, Mass. (tied 68th, 83-84--167), senior Steve O'Brien of Cranston, R.I. (tied 72nd, 79-90--169) and senior Mike Grande of Orange, Conn. (83rd, 99-89--188).

Johnson & Wales' Diego Besga won the individual title with a score of 144 (73-71).

The Friars will close out their fall season at the New England Intercollegiate Tournament on October 22-23 at the Captain's Course in Harwich, Mass.
