Providence, R.I. -- The Providence College Volleyball team lost to the University of Pittsburgh, 3-0 (15-7,15-12, 15-8) in BIG EAST action on Saturday, September 30, in Mullaney Gymnasium at Alumni Hall.
Pittsburgh was led by senior Stacy Renick, who posted 15 kills, eight digs and three blocks, and senior Marcia Thiesen, who registered 12 kills and 10 digs for the Panthers.
Junior Annie Cella (Burr Ridge, Ill.) recorded a team-high nine kills and 15 digs for the Friars. Junior Sarah Katinger (Stratford, Conn.) posted eight kills and 17 digs, while senior Heidi Filippi (Wooster, Ohio) added seven kills and five digs. Sophomore Susan Fanning (E. Amherst, N.Y.) handled 27 assists for PC.
Pittsburgh improved to 13-4 overall and 1-0 in the BIG EAST, while Providence dropped to 12-6 overall and 0-1 in league play.
The Friars returns to action on Sunday, October 1, when they host the Mountaineers of the University of West Virginia. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m. in Mullaney Gymnasium at Alumni Hall.
