Men's Soccer Hosts Butler In BIG EAST Home Opener

The Friars look to remain unbeaten at home.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's soccer team (5-3-1, 0-1-0 BIG EAST) will host BIG EAST opponent Butler University (0-6-2, 0-0-1 BIG EAST) on Saturday, Sept. 26. The match will kick off at 7:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS…
The Friars enter Saturday's match with a 5-3-1 overall record and a 0-1-0 mark in BIG EAST play after earning a 2-1 victory over cross-town rival Brown on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Sam Montalto (Needham, Mass.) opened the scoring in the 55th minute before Brian Garrepy (Warwick, R.I.) scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute. Vasco Teixeira (Warren, R.I.) and Angelo Ventrella (Toronto, Ont.) assisted on both goals.
Providence remains unbeaten at home this season with a 4-0-1 record. The Friars have earned victories over Sacred Heart, Long Island University, Rhode Island and Brown, while playing Boston University to a 1-1 draw.
The Friars have scored 20 goals through nine games this season. Garrepy leads Providence with six goals, while Alvaro Maneiro (Madrid, Spain) has recorded five. Garrepy and Ventrella lead the team with 12 points each, while Maneiro has recorded 11 points. Ventrella has registered a team-high eight assists, which leads all NCAA Division I men's soccer players.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Carney (Dunstable, Mass.) has started each of Providence's nine matches this season. The Friars have allowed 15 goals while recording one shutout.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST BUTLER…
Butler leads the all-time series against Providence, 7-5-1. The two programs last met on Oct. 21, 2023, in Indianapolis, Ind., when the Friars earned a 3-0 victory.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS…
Butler enters Saturday's match with a 0-6-2 overall record and a 0-0-1 mark in BIG EAST play. The Bulldogs most recently played No. 6 Akron to a scoreless draw on Sept. 18 in their conference opener.
The Bulldogs have scored three goals through eight matches this season. Max Klein, Brendan Cunningham and Luca Raso have each scored once for Butler. The Bulldogs have allowed 14 goals and have recorded two shutouts.

The Friars will travel to Washington, D.C. to face BIG EAST opponent Georgetown (7-1-1) on Friday, Oct. 2. The match is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 p.m.
