Hudson Malinoski recorded his second-career hat trick as the No. 7 Providence College men's hockey team swept Vermont with a 5-3 win on Saturday (Feb. 21) at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
- The Friars raced out to an early 3-0 lead.
Hudson Malinoski tallied his 9th and 10th goals of the season in the opening 10 minutes. Malinoski tapped in a backdoor pass from
Kale McCallum to open the scoring before crisp passing from
Tanner Adams and
Will Elger found him for his second of the game.

John Mustard netted his team-high 14th goal of the season at 16:25.
- Vermont responded with a goal from Daniel Sambuco just 1:02 later.
- Blake Steenerson brought the Catamounts back within a goal at 3-2 at 8:17 of the second period.
- Malinoski completed the hat trick, the second of his career, at the 12:10 mark to extend the Friar lead to 4-2.

Roger McQueen one-timed a feed from McCallum on the power play with just 12.6 seconds left in the period for his 11th goal of the season and a 5-2 lead.
- Thomas Sinclair cut the Providence lead to 5-3 just 2:00 into the third period.
- Parsons and the Friar defense held strong over the final 18 minutes to close the game out.

- New Hampshire enters Friday's game against the Friars at 13-16-1 overall and 7-12-1 in Hockey East coming off an 1-1-0 weekend against UMass.
- The Wildcats are led by senior Morgan Winters (11-11-22), Nick Ring (8-12-20) and Brendan Fitzgerald (1-13-14).
- In goal, senior Kyle Chauvette is 12-15-1 with a 2.62 GAA and .901 save percentage in 29 appearances this season.
- In his eighth season in Durham, Head Coach Mike Souza has posted a 104-131-28 record.

Series History vs. New Hampshire (73-93-18, .446)
- Providence and New Hampshire conclude their three-game season series in home-and-home set this weekend. The Friars earned a 6-1 win on the road in Durham on Feb. 6.
- The Friars are unbeaten in the last six games against the Wildcats (5-0-1) and are unbeaten in the last four at the Whittemore Center (2-0-2).
- Providence is 28-55-8 all-time on the road against UNH and 12-25-4 since the opening of the Whittemore Center in 1995-96. At home, Providence is 45-34-10 all-time in the series.

Leaman Records 300th Win At Providence
Head Coach
Nate Leaman recorded his 300th win at Providence after the Friars' 5-2 win at Vermont last Friday night. The winningest coach all-time in program history, Leaman has now totaled 439 career victories at the Division I level between Union and Providence.

The Friars boast a 12-3-1 record on the road this season, including a current eight-game road winning streak. The team has averaged 3.81 goals per game and a +27 goal differential, while the goaltending room has combined for a 2.10 GAA and .92 save percentage on the road this season.

Regular Season Title Clinching Scenarios:
The Friars can clinch a their second-ever share of the Regular Season Hockey East crown on Friday night with a regulation win. Providence can clinch its first-ever outright Hockey East Regular Season title with a regulation win + BC netting two or fewer points OR a Providence OT or shootout win + BC netting one or fewer points. The Friars last earned a share of the Hockey East Regular Season title back in 2016.

Jack Parsons Earns National and Hockey East Goaltender of the Month Honors
Providence College freshman goaltender
Jack Parsons (Cortland, N.Y.) was named HCA National Rookie of the Month and Stop It Goaltending Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for January. Parsons went a perfect 7-0-0, tied for the most wins of among all NCAA goaltenders in January, after stepping in the Friars net due to injury to Philip Svedebäck. He posted two shutouts and has Providence riding a nine-game winning streak, the current longest streak in the nation. Parsons registered a 1.87 GAA and .931 save percentage in eight games during the month of January. He is the first Friar rookie to earn National Monthly honors since Jon Gillies in 2013.

Former Friar Nick Saracino '16 Named To Italy's Roster For 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics
Former Providence College men's hockey national champion Nick Saracino '16 (St. Louis, Mo.) was named to Italy's roster for the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Games set to run from Feb. 5-19. Saracino becomes the second men's hockey player to participate in the Olympics for Italy, joining Gates Orlando (1992, 1994, 1998). Saracino appeared in three games for Italy, including the Qualification Round against Switzerland.

Goaltender Michael Simpson Added To The Roster; Earns First NCAA Win
Michael Simpson joins the Friars after spending this season with the Savannah Ghost Pirates of the ECHL. With Savannah, Simpson recorded a 2.63 GAA and .909 save percentage in 10 games played. He participated in training camp with the Florida Panthers prior to the start of this season. In 2024-25, he appeared in a total of 16 games split between Belleville (AHL) and Orlando (ECHL). Simpson stopped 17-of-18 shots to earn his first NCAA win against Northeastern on Feb. 14.

The two-time OHL Champion won titles with the Peterborough Petes in 2022-23, alongside current Friar
Donovan McCoy, and a championship the following season with the London Knights in 2023-24. He earned the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award as OHL Playoff MVP with Peterborough in 2023 after turning in a pair of 50-save performances during the OHL Championship Series. He guided London to an OHL title and a runner-up finish in the Memorial Cup in 2024, winning the Happ Emms Memorial Trophy as the Most Outstanding Goaltender of the Memorial Cup. Simpson was a two-time OHL All-Star Team selection in 2023 (Third Team) and 2024 (Second Team).

The Friars are the ninth tallest roster in the NCAA (6'1"), seventh youngest (21.1 years). Providence is just one of only three programs to have one senior on their roster. The Friars boasted the sixth-most NHL players that appeared in games during the 2024-25 season with 14 total.

The Saskatchewan Connection
Three members of this year's roster hail from Saskatchewan -
Hudson Malinoski,
Roger McQueen and
Quinn Mantei. Malinoski and McQueen are childhood friends and played together with the Saskatoon Blazers AAA squad in 2021-22. Mantei and McQueen were teammates with the Brandon Wheat Kings from 2022-25.
