SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated at Seton Hall, 73-57, on Jan. 20 in South Orange, N.J. The Friars dipped to 10-11 overall (3-7 BIG EAST), while the Pirates improved to 14-5 (8-2 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• Seton Hall led 11-6 after hitting a pair of free throws at the 4:29 mark.
• The Friars' defense held the Pirates scoreless for nearly four minutes while inching within one (11-10).
• Seton Hall ended its drought with 45-seconds left in the quarter on a lay-up and then stole the ensuing inbounds pass to score again 11-seconds later.
• The Pirates held a 15-10 lead at the intermission.
2ND QUARTER:
• The Friars hit back-to-back threes to start the quarter and claimed a 16-15 lead.
• Providence outscored Seton Hall 9-2 in the frame and grabbed a two-point lead before Savannah Catalon converted a traditional three-point play at the 5:57 mark. The play gave her squad a 20-19 lead.
• The Friars and Pirates were tied, 23-23, at the 2:42 mark.
• Seton Hall outscored Providence 5-3 over the final 1:19 of play to take a 28-26 advantage into the locker room.

Sabou Gueye paced the Friars with 11 points, six rebounds and two assists in the first half.
3RD QUARTER:
• Seton Hall started the third on a 6-0 run to take a 34-26 lead.
• The Friars answered with a 7-0 run to get within 34-33 at the 7:07 mark.
• The game was tied, 39-39, with 5:23 to play in the quarter.
• Seton Hall closed out the frame with a 19-5 scoring advantage to take a 14-point lead at the intermission (58-44). The Pirates outscored the Friars 30-18 overall in the frame.
• Eleven of the Pirates' 30 points came off turnovers.
• The only field goal for the Friars in the final 5:23 was a three-point field goal by
Sami Mancini as the shot clock expired.
4TH QUARTER:
• The Pirates pushed their lead to 20 with 4:02 to play (67-47).
• Providence cut the deficit to 67-52 with a 5-0 spurt (3:08).
• Seton Hall held on for a 73-57 victory.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Seton Hall swept the season series, 2-0.
• Gueye reached double digits in the scoring column for the third-consecutive game and 14
th time this season, with 15 points.
• Gueye added a team-best nine rebounds and four assists.
• Brown was the only other Friar in double figures, with 11 points, and also grabbed five rebounds.
• Providence committed 21 turnovers in the game, which yielded 20 points on the offensive end for Seton Hall.

• Providence returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 27 against Villanova. The game will be played at Finneran Pavilion in Villanova, Pa. and is scheduled to tipoff at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
