INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated by Butler, 62-52, on Jan. 14 at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. Providence dropped to 9-10 on the season (2-6 BIG EAST). Butler improved to 8-10 (2-6 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• Providence hit the first bucket of the night before Butler exploded on a 13-0 run.
• The Friars ended a scoring drought of nearly six minutes with back-to-back buckets by
Teneisia Brown to make the score 13-6 with 2:51 on the clock.
• Butler held a 18-9 lead at the completion of the first quarter.
2ND QUARTER:
• Providence cut the deficit to nine on two occasions, but Butler used an 8-0 run to claim a 17-point advantage (30-13) with 5:25 left on the clock.
• The Friars responded with an 8-0 run during a span of 2:52 to get it back to single digits (30-21).
• Butler completed the half with a 10-2 scoring advantage to lead 40-23 at the break.

Sabou Gueye and Brown combined for 12 of the Friars' 23 points, scoring six each.
• Providence shot 33-percent from the field (9-27), while Butler converted 60-percent of its attempts (15-25), including a 6-11 showing beyond the arc (.545).
3RD QUARTER:
• The Friars came out of the gate with a 6-0 run in the first minute of play to get within 11.
• Butler pushed its lead to 20 for the first time in the game (51-31) with 3:47 remaining.
• Gueye ended a four-minute drought for Providence with a lay-up at 2:28.
• Providence outscored Butler 13-11 in the third.
• Gueye scored 10 points in the frame on 5-7 shooting.
4TH QUARTER:
• The Friars chipped away in the fourth and closed within single digits with 3:08 to play (58-49).

Payton Dunbar drilled a three on an out-of-bounds play to make it a 60-52 game with 1:19 to play.
• The Friars' comeback fell short as Butler held on for a 62-52 win.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Gueye reached the 20-point mark for the fourth time this season, finishing with 22 points.
• She shot 10-16 from the field and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds and four steals.
• She scored 16 of her 22 points in the second half.
• Brown scored 10 points and recorded seven rebounds and four assists.

• The Friars will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 17 against Creighton. The game will be played at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The game is slated to tipoff at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+
