PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated by Villanova, 85-55, on Jan. 11 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. Providence evened its record at 9-9 (2-5 BIG EAST), while the Wildcats improved to 14-3 (7-1 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• Providence was forced to call a timeout at the 6:35 mark as Villanova opened the game on a 9-0 run.
• All nine of the Wildcats' points came off five Friar turnovers.
•
Princess Moody scored on a drive to the hoop for Providence's first points of the day with 5:55 on the clock.
• The Friars outscored Villanova, 14-12, over the final 5:55 of the quarter.
• The Wildcats held a 24-14 lead at the intermission.
2ND QUARTER:
• The 'Cats started the second quarter with a 13-4 scoring advantage to force another Providence timeout at the 4:39 mark (37-18).
• Villanova extended its lead to 20 on a triple from the right wing with 2:39 to play (40-20).
• The Wildcats led 45-25 at halftime.

Payton Dunbar paced the Friars with 10 points on 4-7 shooting, including 2-2 from beyond the arc.
3RD QUARTER:
• An 11-0 run by the Wildcats pushed their lead north of 30 points with 1:37 on the clock (61-29).
• Providence closed the quarter with back-to-back threes from
Ashley Dinges and Dunbar to make it a 63-37 game heading into the fourth.
4TH QUARTER:
• The Wildcats outscore the Friars 22-18 in the fourth to claim a 85-55 victory.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Dunbar scored in double figures for the third time in the last four games (13 points), including each of the last two. It marked just the second time this season she hit double-digits in back-to-back games.
•
Nalani Kaysia (12 rebounds) recorded double-digit boards for the second time since joining the Friars midyear (six games).
•
Sabou Gueye finished with six points and five assists.
• Dinges added eight points on 3-4 shooting. All eight of her points came in the second half.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Friars hit the road to face Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. on Wednesday, Jan. 14. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
