Volleyball Falls to Tulane University, 3-1

NEW ORLEANS, La.- The Providence College volleyball team (8-4) fell to Tulane University (7-3) in four sets (3-1) on Friday, Sept. 19 in their second match of the Pelican Invitational.
 
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Tulane earned a 25-18 victory in the first set.
  • Tulane came out quick with a 10-7 lead.
  • The Green Wave extended their lead to 18-23, forcing a PC timeout.
  • Providence called another timeout after Tulane advanced its lead to 23-16.
  • Tulane stayed ahead to win the set, 25-18.

SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence won the second set, 25-20.
  • The two teams traded points early, tying the set at 12-12.
  • A kill by sophomore Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) gave Providence a 16-13 lead.
  • Adkins had an ace to further advance PC's lead to 19-14, forcing a Tulane timeout.
  • The Friars maintained their lead, winning the set 25-20.

THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Tulane won the third set, 30-28.
  • Providence came out strong with a 10-7 lead.
  • A kill by Adkins extended PC's lead to 18-14.
  • Tulane tied the set at 23-23, forcing a Providence timeout.
  • The Green Wave pulled ahead to win the set 30-28.
 
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: Tulane won the set, 25-17 and the match 3-1.
  • Tulane jumped out to a 12-7 advantage, forcing a Providence timeout.
  • The Friars took a second timeout after the Green Wave extended their lead to 16-8.
  • Tulane maintained its lead to win the set, 25-17 and the match 3-1.
MATCH NOTES:
  • Adkins led the team in kills with 19.
  • Juniors Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) and Miller McDonald (Dallas, Texas) both recorded double-doubles. Taylor had 12 kills and 10 digs; McDonald had 10 digs and 25 assists.
  • Redshirt senior Hadley Pride (Nashville, Tenn.) led the defense with a career-high 36 digs.
  • The Friars notched 58 kills, 72 digs, and six blocks.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars will return to action tomorrow, Sept. 20, at 1:00 p.m. (ET) against New Orleans in their final match of the Pelican Invitational.
