PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team fell to Old Dominion, 2-0, in the 2025 BIG EAST opener on Friday, Sept. 19 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars dropped to 4-2 on the season (0-1 BIG EAST), while ODU improved to 3-4 (1-0 BIG EAST).
GAME FLOW:
• Less than a minute into the action, the Monarchs earned a penalty corner and scored on a direct shot. Sanci Molkenboer tallied the goal, assisted by Madison Zalewski and Sian Emslie.
• Providence outshot ODU in the first quarter, 2-1, including a 2-1 edge in shots on goal.
• ODU converted another penalty corner opportunity at the 20:44 mark of the second quarter to take a 2-0 lead. Amelie Zielcke was credited with the goal and Cosima Perleth and Nicolette Saccomandi were awarded assists.
• At the half, shots were event at 3-3 overall (2-2 shots on goal). ODU earned three corners in the first half.
• The Friars recorded three attacking penalty corners in the third quarter, but were unable to cash in.
• The game was scoreless over the final two quarters of play as ODU held on to the 2-0 victory.
• In the second half, Providence held the advantage in shots, 4-3, and penalty corners, 6-3.

Ava Porter recorded two saves in net for Providence, while ODU's Suus Broers collected five saves.
