PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team was edged in double-overtime, 2-1, on Sunday, Sept. 21 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars moved to 4-3 on the season, while American improved to 3-4 overall.
GAME FLOW:
• The first quarter was scoreless (0-0), with American recording the advantage in shots (4-0) and penalty corners (3-0). None of the Eagle's four shot attempts landed on goal.
• The two teams remained locked in a scoreless tie at halftime (0-0). Providence held a 2-1 advantage in shots during the second frame.
• Providence college got on the scoreboard with a fabulous back-handed finish by
Ari Ftorek with 16-seconds left on the clock. She was led into the circle by
Bo Martina, who earned the assist.
• American countered on its ensuing possession, scoring the tying goal with one-second left on the clock. Jordan Reicher was credited with the goal for Eagles.
• A flurry of cards were given to both teams in the late in the quarter, but neither team was able to break through on the scoreboard.
• The teams went to overtime tied, 1-1.

Ava Porter made two big saves during a penalty corner bid in the closing seconds of the first overtime.
• The two teams went to a second overtime session tied, 1-1.
• American came away with the victory as Agustina Roffo carried the ball down the field in transition, scoring on a low hard shot from the right side of circle, unassisted (74:41).
NOTES:
• Porter finished the game with five saves, while her counterpart Pauline Gineste collected two saves in the win.
• With her goal against American, Ftorek now is tied with Martina for the team lead in goals, with four, and ranks second on the team in scoring (nine points).
• Martina recorded her first assist of the season and 11
th of her career.
• The Friars have played three overtime games this season and are 1-2 in those contests.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Friars will complete their seven-game home stand with a pair of matches next week at Lennon Family Field. Providence will host BIG EAST foe Georgetown on Friday, Sept. 26 at 3:00 p.m. on ESPN+. The Friars finish the weekend with a non-conference match against Hofstra on Sunday, Sept. 28 at Noon.
