Women’s Soccer Set To Host Brown

The Friars will face the Brown Bears, on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 6:00 p.m.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's soccer team is set to face Brown University (5-1-2) on Wednesday, Sept. 17. The match will kick off at 6:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. The game will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
 
SCOUTING THE FRIARS... The Providence College women's soccer team recently tied with Cornell, 1-1, to move to 3-1-1 overall. The Friars have wins over Army, 1-0, Northeastern, 2-1, and Sacred Heart, 1-0, this season and were defeated by Rhode Island, 2-0. Providence's recent home match versus Rutgers University, originally scheduled for Friday, Sept. 6, was postponed due to inclement weather.
 
Five players have scored a goal for the Friars this season. Lily Gibbs (Dedham, Mass.), Courtnee Pickles (Methuen, Mass.) and Isabella Kloock-Jensen (Aabenraa, Denmark) have each registered game-winning goals for Providence. Amaya Coffie (Warwick, R.I.) and Ella McBride (Peterborough, Ont.) have also netted a goal. Colleen Casey (Franklin, Mass.), Alanna Coffie (Warwick, Mass), Thaea Mouratidis (Toronto, Ont.) and Emma Gregorski (South Glastonbury, Conn.) have each logged an assist for Providence. Graduate student goalkeeper Ellie Thallman (Northville, Mich.) has anchored Friars in net, playing every minute (450:00) across the first five games. Thallman has registered a .778 save percentage on 14 saves and has recorded two shutout wins. Stephanie Schoeley (Thedford, Ont.) and McBride have led the Friars' back line, logging 445 and 426 minutes, respectively.


STEPHANIE SCHOELEY AND ISABELLA KLOOCK-JENSEN EARN BIG EAST WEEKLY HONORS... Stephanie Schoeley and Isabella Kloock-Jensen earned BIG EAST Weekly honors on Monday, Sept. 8. Schoeley was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. The sophomore led the Friar defense, logging 90 minutes of action and helped limit Sacred Heart to only one shot in Providence's 1-0 win on Sept. 3. Kloock-Jensen was named to the weekly Honor Roll after she was credited with the game-winning goal in the 60th minute. It also marked her first-career goal with the Friars.



ELLA MCBRIDE AND COURTNEE PICKLES EARN BIG EAST WEEKLY HONORS... Ella McBride and Courtnee Pickles earned BIG EAST Weekly honors on Monday, Aug. 25. McBride was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. The senior anchored the Friars' defense, logging 90 minutes of action and helped limit Northeastern to only two shots on goal in the match. Pickles was named to the weekly Honor Roll after she was credited with the game-winning goal in the 67th minute. It also marked her first-career goal with the Friars.

ELLIE THALLMAN AND LILY GIBBS EARN BIG EAST WEEKLY HONORS... Ellie Thallman and Lily Gibbs earned BIG EAST Weekly honors on Monday, Aug. 18. Thallman was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week following her clean sheet performance in the team's in versus Army. Gibbs was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after she scored her first career goal in the Friars' win over Army.
 
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST BROWN... The Friars hold a 12-23-0 all-time record against the Bears. In the last meeting between the two teams, Providence was defeated by Brown, 2-0 on Sept. 12 of last season on the road.

SCOUTING THE BEARS... Brown enters Wednesday's match with a 5-1-2 record. The Bears hold a 3-0-1 record on the road this season with notable results coming from a win at UConn, 1-0, and a draw at No. 17 Wake Forest, 1-1.

Senior defender Naya Cardoza leads Brown with four goals. Joy Okonye has also recorded eight points with two goals and a team-high four assists. Sophomore Ayla Sahin ranks second on the team in goals with three on the season. Five players have recorded multiple goals for Brown, with seven players registering at least one goal. Senior goalkeeper Bella Schopp has anchored the Bears in net this season, starting in seven games. Schopp has posted a .667 save percentage with 12 saves. Sahin and Jael-Marie Guy have each been named Offensive Player of the Week, and Cardoza and Brooke Birtwistle have been named Defensive Player of the Week in the Ivy League.

ELLA MCBRIDE NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST TEAM… Ella McBride was named to the Preseason ALL-BIG EAST Team. The BIG EAST released its 2025 Preseason Coaches' Poll and preseason honors on Aug. 12. McBride, who earned All-BIG EAST Third Team honors as a junior in 2024, started in 12 games for the Friars. She finished tied for second on the team in points (eight) on three goals and two assists. McBride has started in all five games this season and registered a goal and 426 minutes on the Friars back line.

BIG EAST PRESEASON COACHES POLL... Providence women's soccer was picked to finish sixth in the 2025 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll earning 53 points. Providence finished last season with a 3-5-2 record in conference play. 


RETURNERS... The Friars return 18 players from last year's roster including three multi-goal scorers.

Senior defender/midfielder, Ella McBride (Peterborough, Ont.) enters her fourth season with the Friars. Throughout her career at Providence, she has played in 44 games and recorded 14 points on six goals and two assists. Last season, McBride finished tied for second on the team in scoring with a career-high eight points on five goals and two assists. She was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team at the conclusion of the season. McBride missed six games in 2024 season to compete on the Canadian National Team in the Under-20 FIFA World Cup. McBride earned BIG EAST Defender of the Week on Aug. 25 this season.

Graduate student goalkeeper Ellie Thallman (Northville, Mich.) returns for her second season with the Friars. Thallman joined Providence last year as a transfer from Michigan State. She played in 20 games in net for the Friars and compiled a 5-4-4 record. She registered 38 saves and a .731 save percentage. Thallman was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 30 last season and Aug. 18 this season.

Junior Marryn Gruhn (Northport, N.Y.) enters her third season with the Friars. She has played in 41 games for the Friars and has tallied five career goals. Last season, Gruhn recorded two goals and was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 30.

Sophomore Kristin Middaugh (Lancaster, N.Y.) enters her second season with the Providence. In her freshman campaign, Middaugh netted two goals for the Friars.

Stephanie Schoeley (Thedford, Ont.) returns for her second season with the Friars. In her freshman season Schoeley scored one goal for the Friars. This past summer, Schoeley helped lead Team Canada to a 2025 CONCACAF U20 Women's Championship victory. Schoeley earned BIG EAST Defender of the week on Sept. 8 this season.

Senior Abbey Finn (Dedham, Mass.) returns for her fourth season with the Friars. Last season, Finn anchored the Friars' back line and led the team with 1,569 minutes on the field.

NEWCOMERS… Providence welcomes 11 student-athletes to the program this season, featuring two transfers and nine freshmen. The transfers include junior midfielder Meg Roden (Belconnen, Australia) and redshirt freshman Caitlin Driscoll (Sherborn, Mass.) from Syracuse.

In her two seasons at High Point, Roden played in 36 games with 26 appearances in the starting lineup. She scored four goals and added one assist at High Point. Roden was named to the Big South Conference All-Freshman Team in 2023 and earned BIG South Conference Honorable Mention in 2024. Driscoll spent one season at Syracuse and did not appear in any games.

The incoming freshman class includes Leila Anazagasty-Pursoo (Bayshore, N.Y.), Mara Batchen (Snyder, N.Y.), Gia D'Alessio (East Hanover, N.J.), Emma Gregorski (South Glastonbury, Conn.), Olivia Jacobs (Villanova, Pa.), Courtnee Pickles (Methuen Mass.), Sophie Tonino (Howell, N.J.) and Eden Wheeler (Norwell, Mass.).

UP NEXT... The Friars will travel to St. John's (2-3-2) on Wednesday, Sept. 24, in Queens, N.Y. The game will kick off at 7:00 p.m. Providence holds a 19-18-6 advantage all-time against the Red Storm. In the last meeting between the two teams, Providence defeated St. John's, 1-0, on Sept. 26, last season in Providence, R.I.
