PROVIDENCE, R.I.-Â The Providence College volleyball team (6-3) defeated Merrimack College (1-6) in straight sets (3-0) on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â Providence earned a 25-8 victory in the first set.
- Providence came out strong earning a 10-4 lead, forcing a Merrimack timeout.
- A kill by sophomore Audrey Kocon (Shoreview, Minn.) advanced the Friars' lead to 18-8, forcing a second Warrior timeout.
- Providence went on a 7-0 run to win the set, 25-8.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â Providence won the second set, 25-11.
- Providence jumped out to an 11-4 advantage, forcing a Merrimack timeout.
- The Warriors called another timeout after a kill by sophomore Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) extended the Friars' lead to 22-11.
- Providence went on a 3-0 run to win the set, 25-11.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â Providence won the set 25-15, and the match, 3-0.
- Providence came out quick with an 11-5 lead, forcing a Merrimack timeout.
- A kill by junior Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) extended the Friars' lead to 18-10, forcing another Warrior timeout.
- A kill by freshman Tori Otter (Rogers, Ark.) further advanced PC's lead to 21-14.
- The Friars maintained their lead to win the set, 25-15, and the match, 3-0.
MATCH NOTES:
- Adkins recorded a double-double, with 13 kills and 10 digs.
- Freshman Kaia Easterbrook (Canton, Ga.) hit .875 on seven kills.
- Redshirt senior Hadley Pride (Nashville, Tenn.) led the team in digs with 11.
- The Friars notched 41 kills, 13 aces, seven blocks, and 31 digs.
WHAT'S NEXT:Â The Friars will return to action tonight, Sept. 13, at 7:00 p.m. against Holy Cross for their final match of the Friar Classic.
