PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Three members of the Providence College women's hockey team earned New England Hockey Writers Association honors, as announced Wednesday, April 2.
Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario),
Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.) and
Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) were named to the New England Division I Women's All-Star Team. Kirchmair was also selected as the New England Division I Women's Most Valuable Player, becoming the first Friar to win the award since Karen Thatcher in 2004-05.
Kirchmair led the Friars in scoring with 37 points (19 goals, 18 assists) and was named Hockey East Player of the Year—the first Friar to earn the honor since Thatcher. The junior claimed the Hockey East scoring title with 30 points (15 goals, 15 assists) in conference play, becoming the first Friar to lead the league in scoring since Kelli Halcisak in 2002-03. Kirchmair recorded 10 multi-point games, a +22 rating, four game-winning goals, and a hat trick on Jan. 24 against Boston College. She was a three-time Hockey East Player of the Week and the only unanimous selection to the Hockey East First Team All-Stars.
Knapp finished second on the team with 35 points (19 goals, 16 assists), appearing in every game for the Friars. The sophomore tied Kirchmair for the conference lead in goals, marking the first time since Sara Hjalmarsson (2022-23) that a Friar accomplished the feat. Knapp recorded her first career hat trick in a 3-2 overtime win against Maine on Jan. 31 and registered nine multi-point games. She was named a Hockey East First Team All-Star, Hockey East Player of the Week and Hockey East Player of the Month for February. The Friars posted a 13-2-0 record last season when Knapp scored a goal.
Becker appeared in all 34 games and earned her third career Hockey East All-Star selection, landing on the Third Team. The defenseman, who served as an alternate captain, led all Friar defensemen with 18 points (five goals, 13 assists) and recorded a team-high three power-play goals. She was also named Army ROTC Defender of the Week in January.
This marks the first time since 2002-03 that three Friars have been named to the New England Hockey Writers All-Star Team.
