Women’s Hockey Fall To Quinnipiac In Season Opener, 5-2

Reichen Kirchmair recorded her 20th career multi-point game.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's hockey team fell to Quinnipiac University, 5-2, on Friday, Oct. 3, at Schneider Arena in the opening game of the 2025-26 regular season. The Friars dropped to 0-1-0 on the year, while Quinnipiac improved to 3-0-0. Senior Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) recorded a goal and an assist in the loss.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
  
-The Friars opened the scoring at 8:19 of the first period on a goal from sophomore Jessie Pellerin (Bowmanville, Ontario), set up by a feed from behind the net by Kirchmair. Senior Sarah Davies (Mississauga, Ontario) added the secondary assist.
 
-Quinnipiac responded two minutes later when Alex Law tied the game at 1-1. Kahlen Lamarche and Ella Sennick were credited with the assists.
 
-With 1:05 remaining in the opening frame, the Bobcats took a 2-1 lead on a goal by Laurence Frenette. Lamarche picked up her second assist of the game, while Law tallied her second point with an assist.
 
-After Law was called for hooking at 7:12 of the second period, the Friars capitalized on the power play as Kirchmair evened the score at 2-2. Junior Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.) earned the assist. The goal marked Kirchmair's 20th career multi-point game. She recorded 10 such performances last season.
 
-Just over a minute into the third period, Peyton Cormier put Quinnipiac back in front, 3-2, with Emerson Jarvis assisting.
 
-At 6:37 of the third, Law scored her second of the night, unassisted, to extend the Bobcats' lead to 4-2.
 
-Law completed the hat trick with 7:06 left in regulation, sealing the 5-2 victory. Makayla Watson and Sennick added the assists.
 
-Graduate student Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) made 27 saves in net for the Friars.
 
-Providence is now 11-7-2 all-time against Quinnipiac.
