Last Time Out vs. UConn
- The No. 7/7 Providence College men's ice hockey team topped No. 9/9 UConn in a 6-3 win at the XL Center in Hartford on Saturday, Feb. 1.
- The Friars opened the scoring midway through the first period, as
Hudson Malinoski finished on a
Will Elger feed in the slot to put Providence ahead 1-0.
- Providence doubled their advantage just over five minutes later, as
Tanner Adams took a hit with the puck before dishing it to
John Mustard, who fired a spin-around shot off the post and in to give the Friars a 2-0 lead.
- The Friars extended their lead just 1:52 into the second period, as
Hudson Malinoski collected the puck from
Logan Sawyer before firing it top left for his second goal of the game.
- The Huskies broke onto the scoreboard midway through the second period, as Ethan Gardula and Jake Richard each collected a power-play goal to pull the game to a 3-2 score through 40 minutes.
- UConn tied the affair early in the third period, as Joey Muldowney collected a feed in front before rifling it past Borgiel blocker-side.
- Following a five-minute major and game misconduct to UConn's Ethan Gardula, the Friars regained the lead two minutes into the power-play, as

- No. 5/5 Maine (17-5-3, 9-3-3 HEA) enters their matchup with the Friars following a pair of wins at home, where the Black Bears knocked off Northeastern 3-1 on Friday (Jan. 31) before besting No. 20 UMass 3-2 on Sunday (Feb. 2)

Since the 2021-22 season, Providence has fought to a 3-3-0 record against Maine, with the most recent result being the Friars' 4-3 overtime road win over the Black Bears at Alfond Arena on Feb. 10, 2024. In that span, the Friars are 2-0-0 when facing Maine at home and 1-3-0 when facing the Black Bears in Orono.

Svedebäck Named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month/Mike Richter Award Watch List
Providence College junior Philip Svedebäck (Växjö, Sweden) was named Stop It Goaltending's Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for December on Friday, January 3. This marked Svedebäck's first-career monthly recognition as a Friar. Svedebäck led all Hockey East goaltenders in December with four wins. He stopped 79-of-87 shots he faced last month, good for a 2.00 GAA and .908 save percentage. Overall in 2024-25, Svedebäck is 11-4-3 with a 2.39 GAA and .915 save percentage in 18 games played. For the third-consecutive season, he was named to the Mike Richter Award Watch List for the top NCAA Division I goaltender.

Eight Former Friars Earn Spots On NHL Opening Night Rosters
The Friars boasted eight alums that appeared on NHL opening night rosters - Noel Acciari (PIT), Jacob Bryson (BUF), Vincent Desharnais (VAN), Brandon Duhaime (WSH), Mark Jankowski (NSH), Kevin Rooney (CGY), Brandon Tanev (SEA) and Jake Walman (SJ).

Callahan/Ford Make NHL Debuts
Former Friar captain Mike Callahan '22 made his NHL debut with the Boston Bruins on Jan. 14 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He finished the night with a +1 rating in 14:11 of ice time. He has appeared in seven games for Boston this season. Parker Ford made his NHL debut for the Winnipeg Jets on Jan. 30 against his hometown Boston Bruins, scoring a goal in his debut.

Connelly Wins Gold With the U.S. At The 2025 World Junior Championship
Freshman
Trevor Connelly won gold with the United States at 2025 World Junior Championship after their 4-3 overtime win over Finland in the gold medal game on Jan. 5. Connelly finished the tournament with one goal, three assists and a +3 rating over seven games.

Leaman Hits Milestone
Head Coach
Nate Leaman earned his 249th career victory at Providence on Nov. 11, 2023, passing Lou Lamoriello as the program's winningest head coach all-time. On October 25, 2024, Leaman hit 400 career wins as a Division I head coach in Providence's 3-2 overtime win at Vermont. Leaman is the only Hockey East coach to post a winning record in each of the last 12 seasons.

Poisson Among Active Leaders
With an assist in the third period against Long Island University on Nov. 23, graduate student
Nick Poisson became the 55th member of the program to reach the 100-point milestone. Poisson also scored the game-winning goal in the 4-3 win.

Sawyer Earns Hockey East Rookie of the Week Honors
Providence College's
Logan Sawyer (Orangeville, Ont.) was named Pro Ambitions Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Monday, February 3. Sawyer was instrumental in both games against No. 9 UConn, netting the opening goal in Friday's 3-3 tie before tallying a pair of assists in the Friars' 6-3 road win at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. Sawyer is the fourth member of the Friars to earn the recognition this season, following
Will Elger (Oct. 28),
Trevor Connelly (Nov. 11) and
John Mustard (Dec. 2).

Svedebäck, Richard, Adams Nominated for 2025 Hobey Baker Award
Providence College men's ice hockey junior goaltender Philip Svedebäck (Växjö, Sweden), senior defenseman
Guillaume Richard (Cap-Sante, Que.), and sophomore forward
Tanner Adams (Northport, N.Y.) were all named as nominees for the 2025 Hobey Baker Award on Wednesday (Jan. 22). In 16 games this season, Svedebäck has posted a 11-4-1 record alongside a 2.34 GAA and .916 save percentage. Richard has posted seven assists this season to go alongside a team-leading 31 blocked shots. Adams paces the Friars in goals this season with nine and ranks second in overall scoring with 15 points on the year.
