Last Time Out vs. Maine
- The No. 7/7 Providence College men's ice hockey team fell late to No. 5/5 Maine on Saturday, Feb. 8, losing 1-0 in overtime at Schneider Arena.
- The Friars had an opportunity early in the first period when Maine's Nicholas Niemo was given a five-minute major and game misconduct, but were unsuccessful on the extended power-play.
- With 7:08 to play in the third period, Maine's Jack Dalton was issued a five-minute major and game misconduct, but the Friars were unable to find the back of the net on the man advantage, leaving the game knotted at 0-0 through 60 minutes and sending the game to overtime.
- The Black Bears found the back of the net 2:15 into the overtime period, as Taylor Makar beat Svedebäck high glove-side for a top corner goal, winning it for Maine 1-0.
- Philip Svedebäck stood tall in the loss, denying 19-of-20 shots, good for a .950 save percentage.
- Providence appeared in their 11th overtime game of the season (4-2-5).
 
Scouting the Terriers:
- No. 9/9 Boston University (16-10-1, 10-6-1 HEA) enters their matchup with the Friars following the team's appearance in the Beanpot Final on Monday (Feb. 10), where the Terriers beat Boston College 4-1.
- Through 27 games this season, forwards Quinn Hutson (16-17-33) and Cole Eiserman (16-8-24) lead the team in goals with 16 apiece, followed by Ryan Greene (11-15-26) with 11 and Shane Lachance (9-15-24) with nine.
- Defenseman Cole Hutson (8-20-28) paces the Terriers in assists this season with 20, followed by Q. Hutson with 17 and both Greene and Lachance with 15 each.
- Overall, Q. Hutson leads the Terriers in total points this season with 33, followed by C. Hutson with 28 points, Greene with 26 points, and both Lachance and Eiserman with 24 points apiece. In total, 22 different Terriers have tallied a point this season, including nine players with 15+ points.
- In net, the Terriers have split time in net, with the majority of starts going to senior netminder Mathieu Caron, who, in 20 appearances, has guided the Terriers to 12-6-1 record while posting a 3.17 goals against average and .898 save percentage. Aside from Caron, the Terriers started sophomore Max Lacroix in four games, where he posted a 1-2-0 record alongside a 3.59 goals against average and .872 save percentage, as well as freshman Mikhail Yegorov in five games, where he posted a 3-2-0 record alongside a 1.41 goals against average and .951 save percentage.
- On offense, the Terriers boast one of the strongest attacks across the NCAA, with a 12.5% shooting rate (2nd), 26.9% success rate on the power-play (6th), and 3.8 goals per game average (t-3rd).
- Additionally, the Terriers have been one of the most-penalized teams across the NCAA this season, with a nation-leading 14.8 penalty minutes per game.
 
Series History vs. Boston University (59-118-20, .362)
This weekend's matchup with Boston University marks the first and second of three meetings between the Terriers and Friars this season. Since the 2021-22 season, Providence has fought to a 0-7-1 record with the Terriers and are currently on a nine game winless streak, with their last win coming on Jan. 8, 2021 in a 7-3 victory at Agganis Arena. In that span, the Friars are 0-3-1 at Schneider Arena, 0-3-0 at Agganis Arena, and 0-1-0 at TD Garden when facing Boston University. The Friars and Terriers will face off again on March 6 at Agganis Arena.
 
Svedebäck Named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month/Mike Richter Award Watch List
Providence College junior Philip Svedebäck (Växjö, Sweden) was named Stop It Goaltending's Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for December on Friday, January 3. This marked Svedebäck's first-career monthly recognition as a Friar. Svedebäck led all Hockey East goaltenders in December with four wins. He stopped 79-of-87 shots he faced last month, good for a 2.00 GAA and .908 save percentage. Overall in 2024-25, Svedebäck is 11-5-4 with a 2.34 GAA and .916 save percentage in 20 games played. For the third-consecutive season, he was named to the Mike Richter Award Watch List for the top NCAA Division I goaltender.
 
Eight Former Friars Earn Spots On NHL Opening Night Rosters
The Friars boasted eight alums that appeared on NHL opening night rosters - Noel Acciari (PIT), Jacob Bryson (BUF), Vincent Desharnais (VAN), Brandon Duhaime (WSH), Mark Jankowski (NSH), Kevin Rooney (CGY), Brandon Tanev (SEA) and Jake Walman (SJ).
 
Callahan/Ford Make NHL Debuts
Former Friar captain Mike Callahan '22 made his NHL debut with the Boston Bruins on Jan. 14 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He finished the night with a +1 rating in 14:11 of ice time. He has appeared in seven games for Boston this season. Parker Ford made his NHL debut for the Winnipeg Jets on Jan. 30 against his hometown Boston Bruins, scoring a goal in his debut.
 
Connelly Wins Gold With the U.S. At The 2025 World Junior Championship
Freshman Trevor Connelly won gold with the United States at 2025 World Junior Championship after their 4-3 overtime win over Finland in the gold medal game on Jan. 5. Connelly finished the tournament with one goal, three assists and a +3 rating over seven games.
 
Leaman Hits Milestone
Head Coach Nate Leaman earned his 249th career victory at Providence on Nov. 11, 2023, passing Lou Lamoriello as the program's winningest head coach all-time. On October 25, 2024, Leaman hit 400 career wins as a Division I head coach in Providence's 3-2 overtime win at Vermont. Leaman is the only Hockey East coach to post a winning record in each of the last 12 seasons.
 
Leading the Pack
Through 28 games this season, Tanner Adams (10-7-17) leads the Friars with 10 goals on the year, followed by nine from Graham Gamache (9-8-17), and eight from both Logan Will (8-12-20) and Hudson Malinoski (8-10-18). Alongside Will, Andrew Centrella (2-12-14) headlines the team in assists with 12 each, followed by John Mustard (6-11-17), Taige Harding (1-11-12), and Austen May (0-11-11), who all have 11 this season. Overall, Will paces the team in total points with 20 on the year, followed by Malinoski with 18, and Adams, Gamache, and Mustard, who each have 17 points. This season, 22 different players have tallied a point, including 13 players with 10+ points.
 
King of the Hill
Through 17 conference matchups, Providence (16-7-5, 6-6-5 HEA) sits in seventh place in the Hockey East standings with 24 points. Boston College (21-5-1, 13-3-1 HEA) currently sits in first place with 38 points, followed by Maine (18-5-4, 10-3-4 HEA) in second place with 36 points, Boston University (16-10-1, 10-6-1 HEA) in third place with 32 points, Connecticut (16-10-3, 8-8-3 HEA) in fourth place with 28 points, UMass-Lowell (14-10-3, 7-8-2 HEA) in fifth place with 26 points, and Merrimack (12-15-1, 8-9-1 HEA) in sixth place with 25 points. Svedebäck, Richard, Adams Nominated for 2025 Hobey Baker Award
Providence College men's ice hockey junior goaltender Philip Svedebäck (Växjö, Sweden), senior defenseman Guillaume Richard (Cap-Sante, Que.), and sophomore forward Tanner Adams (Northport, N.Y.) were all named as nominees for the 2025 Hobey Baker Award on Wednesday (Jan. 22). In 20 games this season, Svedebäck has posted a 11-5-4 record alongside a 2.34 GAA and .916 save percentage. Richard has posted one goal and nine assists this season to go alongside a team-leading 39 blocked shots. Adams paces the Friars in goals this season with 10 and ranks third in overall scoring with 17 points on the year.

The Friars are 230-24-28 all-time under Nate Leaman when scoring three or more goals in a game.
