PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Alcorn State, 64-33, at the Emerald Coast Classic held in Niceville, Fla. The Friars improved to 5-2 on the season while Alcorn State fell to 2-4. Sophomore
Payton Dunbar (Narrows, Va.) led all scorers with 19 points.
1ST QUARTER:
• Providence opened the game on a 12-2 run that was highlighted by three-point baskets from Dunbar and
Sophi Hall (Carver, Minn.) (4:55). Four of the first five Friar baskets came off assists.
• The Friars forced five turnovers in the first eight minutes of action.
• An
Ashley Dinges (Haverhill, Mass.) three followed by a Dunbar and-one gave Providence the 18-2 lead with under two minutes remaining (1:18).
• Providence led 18-4 after the first quarter.
• Dunbar led all scorers with eight.
• Providence controlled the rebounding battle, 12-4.
2ND QUARTER:
• Dunbar continued her success from the field, hitting a pull-up jumper to make it 20-5 (8:38).
• A pair of
Sabou Gueye (Dakar, Senegal) free throws followed by another Dunbar three gave the Friars the 25-8 lead with seven minutes remaining.
• Gueye converted on a three pointer to extend the Providence lead 28-10 (4:39).

Orlagh Gormley (Quincy, Mass.) grabbed her own miss and hit a jumper and
Teneisia Brown (Montego Bay, Jamaica) turned a steal into a transition basket to make it 32-15 with one minute remaining.
• Alcorn St. Beat the buzzer to cut the deficit to 32-18 at halftime.
• Dunbar led all scorers with 13.
• Providence controlled the rebounding battle, 20-10.
• Gueye finished with three assists in the first half.
• Providence scored 12 points off turnovers in the first half.
• Providence shot 12-28 from the field (42.9%), 5-12 from three (41.7%) and 3-3 from the free throw line for 100%.
• Alcorn State shot 7-22 (31.8%) from the field, 3-12 from three (25%) and 1-2 from the free throw line for 50%.
3RD QUARTER:
• Dunbar connected on her third three-point basket of the game to give the Friars the 37-22 lead (7:57).
• Gueye went one of two from the line to extend the Friars lead to double digits, 38-28 (6:26).
• A 6-0 Providence run pushed the lead to 44-28 with under four minutes left (3:21).
• Brown scored back-to-back baskets to give the Friars a 48-31 advantage heading into the fourth. She had six points in the quarter on 3-5 shooting.
4TH QUARTER:
• Dunbar made her fourth three-pointer of the night on the first possession of the quarter to give the Friars their first 20-point lead of the game, 51-31 (9:42).
• Brown converted a layup on a Dinges post feed to make it 55-33 (6:53).
• A pair of
Audrey Shields (Troy, N.Y.) free throws followed by a
Riley Hamburger (Aldie, Va.) free throw gave Providence its largest lead of the night, 58-33 (3:50).
• A
Princess Moody (LaPlata, Md.) three-pointer capped off a 10-0 Providence run to make it 61-33, Providence (2:32).
• Hamburger connected on a three to make it 64-33 with just over a minute remaining.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Providence improved to 5-2 on the season, finishing third at the 2025 Emerald Coast Classic.
• Dunbar (19 points) led all scorers. She shot 7-16 from the field and 4-10 from three.
• Brown scored 14 points and grabbed four rebounds.
• Providence won the rebounding battle 43-22 and has out-rebounded six of its first seven opponents.
• The Friars won by a margin of 30 or more for the first time since Nov. 4, 2025 against Mercy.

• The Friars return home to face Bryant University in Alumni Hall on Sunday, Nov. 30 in Providence, R.I. The game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
