PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated by Middle Tennessee, 54-48, at the Emerald Coast Classic held in Niceville, Fla. The Friars fall to 4-2 on the season and Middle Tennessee improved to 3-3.
1ST QUARTER:
• Providence opened the game with a 14-0 run.
•
Orlagh Gormley's layup with 2:58 remaining in the first quarter caused Middle Tennessee to call a timeout.
• Middle Tennessee's first points were scored from the free throw line with 2:18 left in the quarter.
• Providence did not attempt a free throw in the opening quarter, while Middle Tennessee's only points came from the charity stripe.

Teneisia Brown recorded 6 points and 2 rebounds in 8 minutes of action.
• The Friars forced nine turnovers in the first quarter.
2ND QUARTER:
• Middle Tennessee began the quarter on a 6-0 run.
• After a layup by
Sabou Gueye at 7:04, Middle Tennessee hit from behind the arc and scored in the paint to cut the deficit to seven (20-13) at the media timeout.
• Brown led the Friars with 6 points at halftime, while Blair Baugus recorded 10 points for Middle Tennessee.
3RD QUARTER:
• The Friars scored the first two points of the third quarter, then Middle Tennessee went on a 15-0 run to take the lead 32-26.
• Brown drilled a three-pointer to close out the scoring in the third quarter, giving her 9 points through the first 30 minutes of play.
4TH QUARTER:
• Four-straight points from Gormley cut the deficit to 4 with 5:16 remaining.
• Providence went on an 8-0 to tie the game at 43-43, then traded buckets with Middle Tennessee to keep the game tied at 45-45 with 2:28 left in the fourth quarter.
• Middle Tennessee took a 5-point lead late in the fourth quarter, until
Payton Dunbar nailed a triple to make the score 51-48 in favor of Middle Tennessee.
• Middle Tennessee held on for the 54-48 win.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Providence dropped to 4-2 on the season, ending a four-game win streak.
• Brown (13 points) reached double figures for the third time this season. She shot 5-14 from the field and added six rebounds, five assists and tied a career high with 5 steals.
• Gormley scored 13 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, tying her career best set earlier this season against Central Connecticut (11/10/25).
• Providence won the rebound battle 37-35 and have out-rebounded five of their first six opponents.
• The Friars were held under 50 points for the first time since last February (2/16/25 vs. Seton Hall).
