PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Northeastern, 50-45, on Nov. 18 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The game served as the backdrop for the program's annual Project Providence event and welcomed over 1,100 local elementary and middle school children for a field trip day. The Friars won for the third-straight game and improved to 3-1 on the season, while Northeastern dropped to 1-4.
1ST QUARTER:
• Providence led 12-8 after the opening quarter of play.
• The Friars shot just 25-percent (5-20) in the first quarter, while Northeastern shot 31-percent (4-13).
2ND QUARTER:
• The first three minutes of the second quarter were scoreless until Sabou Gueye got loose on a fast break with 7:00 minutes on the clock (14-8).
• Providence outscored Northeastern 11-6 overall in the frame to take a 23-14 lead into the locker room at halftime.
• Gueye scored eight of the Friars' 23 points in the first half and collected a team-high six rebounds and two steals.
• Teneisia Brown also hauled in six first-half rebounds.
3RD QUARTER:
• The Friars started the third quarter on a 5-0 spurt to force a Northeastern timeout just 1:18 into the action (28-14).
• Northeastern used a 13-5 scoring advantage over the final 7:07 of the quarter to get within six at the intermission (35-29).
• The Huskies held a 15-12 scoring edge overall in the third, after scoring just 14 points in the first half.
4TH QUARTER:
• The Friars scored the first six points of the fourth quarter (41-29).
• Northeastern responded with a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to five (43-38) and force a Providence timeout (5:26).
• The teams traded baskets down the stretch resulting in a 48-42 lead for the Friars.
• Providence called timeout to advance the ball with 29-seconds left and Orlagh Gormley was fouled on the ensuing inbounds play. She made one of two attempts at the line to make it a three-possession game (49-42) with 18-seconds remaining.
• The Huskies drained a three with 12-seconds on the clock to make it a 49-45 game.
• Gueye made one of two free throws on the other end to make the final score 50-45.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Gueye recorded a season-high 21 points on 10-16 shooting and added six rebounds, three steals and one block.
• Gueye scored in double figures for the fourth-straight. She is the only Friar on the roster to record double digits in every game to start the season.
• Brown paced the Friars on the glass with a game-high nine rebounds.
• Payton Dunbar tallied eight points and five rebounds.
• Providence out-rebounded Northeastern, 38-35. The Friars have out-rebounded all four of their opponents this season.

• The Friars will complete their five-game home stand on Friday, Nov. 21 against Yale. The match-up is scheduled to tipoff at 7:00 p.m. at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
