PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational, hosted by Loyola University Chicago, on Friday, Oct. 3. The meet will be held at the Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course on Chicago's north side. The women's 6k championship race will begin at 9 a.m. EST, followed by the men's 8k championship at 9:40 a.m. EST.

The Friar women enter the race ranked seventh nationally and first in the Northeast Region. Leading the pack for the women will be sophomore
Gabrielle Schmidt (Brisbane, Australia), senior
Jane Buckley (Cork, Ireland) and sophomore
Anna Gardiner (Downpatrick, Northern Ireland).
Schmidt won the 2025 Friar Invitational 4K race in a time of 14:07.82 to help Providence to a first-place finish. Buckley and Gardiner will make their season debuts on Friday. Buckley won the 2022 BIG EAST Cross Country Championship (20:05.5), placed third at the 2022 NCAA Northeast Regional (20:27.4) and finished 49th at the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championship. Gardiner was the fifth scoring member of the team that placed third at the 2024 NCAA Championship (20:43.1).
On the men's side, sophomore
Cormac Dixon (Dublin, Ireland), junior
Tyler Bartlett (Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman
Oliver Neate (Sydney, Australia) will lead the Friars. Dixon placed eighth at the 2025 Friar Invitational in 18:42.58. Bartlett and Neate will make their season debuts at the Lakefront Invitational.
