CINCINNATI, Ohio- The Providence College volleyball team (10-9, 1-5 BIG EAST) was defeated by Xavier University (16-2, 5-1 BIG EAST) in three sets (3-0) on Saturday, Oct. 11 in BIG EAST action.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Xavier earned a 25-16 victory in the first set.
- Xavier jumped out to a 13-7 advantage, forcing a Providence timeout.
- The Musketeers went on a 6-0 run after the timeout, extending their lead to 19-7.
- Xavier took a timeout after juniors Lyric Berry (Wylie, Texas) and Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) combined for a block, narrowing their lead to 23-16.
- Xavier went on a 2-0 run to earn a 25-16 victory in the first set.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Xavier won the second set, 25-12.
- Xavier came out strong with a 9-6 lead, forcing a Providence timeout.
- The Friars called another timeout after the Musketeers extended their lead to 18-7.
- Xavier maintained its lead and won the set 25-12.
- Taylor led the Friars with six kills through set two.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Xavier won the set, and the match 3-0.
- Providence came out quick with an 11-6 lead, forcing a Xavier timeout.
- The Musketeers fought back to tie the set at 17-17.
- The set eventually tied again at 20-20, prompting a Friars timeout.
- Xavier went on a 5-2 run to win the set, 25-22 and the match, 3-0.
MATCH NOTES:
- Taylor led the Friars with 10 kills.
- Freshman Tori Otter (Rogers, Ark.) tallied three blocks.
- Redshirt senior Hadley Pride (Nashville, Tenn.) led the defense with 13 digs.
- The Friars notched 27 kills and 33 digs.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars return to Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. next weekend for more BIG EAST action. Providence will face Villanova on Friday, Oct. 17 at 5:00 p.m. They will then play Georgetown on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 4:00 p.m.
