PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's soccer team (3-5-1, 1-1-0 BIG EAST) are set to host the Villanova Wildcats (3-3-3, 1-0-1 BIG EAST) during homecoming weekend on Friday Oct. 3 at 3:00 p.m. The game will take place on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium and the game will be streamed Friars Live.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS
The Friars enter Friday's match after a strong 3-1 victory at Xavier on Saturday, Sept. 27. The Friars had three different goal scorers in the match. Freshman
Angelo Ventrella (Toronto, Canada) and seniors
Ian Abbey (Elmer, N.J.) and
Sam Montalto (Stonington, Conn.) all recorded their second goal of the season.
Through eight games, the Friars have outshot opponents 116-84, which comes to an average of 12.9 shots per game. They also hold a 49-40 advantage in shots on target and hold a 53-25 advantage in corner kicks. Senior
Sam Montalto leads the team in points (six) with two goal and two assists.
Ian Abbey and
Angelo Ventrella (Toronto, Canada) both join Montalto as the multi-goal scorers, each having scored two. Graduate

Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal) and
Cameron Yriondo (Sammamish, Wash.) all have recorded one goal on the year.,
Defensively, the Friars have conceded nine goals while holding opponents to nine shots per game. Redshirt-freshman goalkeeper
Ryan Carney (Dunstable, Mass.) has played every minute in net this season, collecting 28 saves and a .714 save percentage. He is second in the BIG EAST in saves per game with a 3.13 average. Graduate

Vasco Teixeira (Arrentela, Portugal) have anchored the back line for the Friars with sophomore
Steban Lopera (Revere, Mass.) contributing meaningful minutes as well.
Two returners earned All-BIG EAST honors last season for the Friars. Rosa earned All-BIG EAST Second Team. Senior midfielder
Diego Batista (Barcelos, Portugal) was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team. Both Rosa and Batista were named to the 2025 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team on Aug. 19.
AWARDS AND RECOGNITION
It was announced on Sept. 29 that senior
Sam Montalto was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Montalto registered two goals in a 1-0-1 week for the Friars, tallying the equalizer in the 90
th minute in a 1-1 draw with Brown, as well as adding a goal in a 3-2 win at Xavier.
SCOUTING THE WILCATS
The Wildcats come in to Providence after picking up their first BIG EAST win since 2023, beating No. 22 UConn, 2-1, on Sept. 27. Freshmen defenders Brody Crampton and Lorenzo Avalos notched their first career goals in that victory, with Crampton also earning Philly Soccer Six Rookie of the Week honors. The Wildcats have emphasized defensive stability in 2025, allowing just 1.22 goals per game after surrendering more than two per match a season ago. Offensively, senior forward Sam Nyenka leads the squad with three goals, while Fynn Lahrsen has added two.
