Last Time Out vs. Dartmouth
- The Providence College men's hockey team rallied from a first period deficit to secure a 5-3 victory over No. 17/16 Dartmouth to claim the 35th Annual Ledyard Classic at Thompson Arena in Hanover, N.H. on Dec. 29.
- Hank Cleaves got the hosts on the board first at 4:45 of the first period.
- The Friars responded less than three minutes later on Alexander Bales' first NCAA goal and point, one-timing a pass from Tanner Adams off the post and in. John Mustard earned an assist to extend his point streak to seven games.
- With the Big Green on a power play, Graham Gamache forced a turnover and beat Clarke from the high slot for his fifth goal of the year and third in as many games. It marked the Friars' second shorthanded marker of the season.
- Dartmouth responded with a pair of goals by Cleaves and Alex Krause to go ahead 3-2 after 20 minutes.
- Providence responded with a strong middle stanza, outshooting the Big Green by a 16-2 margin.
- Nick Poisson tied the game at 8:24 off a highlight-reel pass from Will Elger.
- Logan Will gave the Friars a 4-3 lead at 16:39 with his sixth goal of the year. Ryan O'Reilly and Taige Harding earned assists on the play.
- The teams battled through a mostly scoreless final period as the Friars clamped down defensively, only surrendering seven shots over the final 40 minutes of the game.
- Chase Yoder gave the Friars insurance with an empty-net goal with 1:50 remaining in regulation to seal the win.
- Providence extended its winning streak to seven games and has captured the Ledyard Classic title in each of their last three appearances in the tournament (2019, 2022, 2024).
- Gamache was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, while Will was named to the All-Tournament Team.
- The Friars improved to 9-1-0 in non-conference games and 8-1-1 away from Schneider Arena this season.
 
Scouting the Bears:
- Brown (4-6-2, 2-5-1 ECAC) enters Tuesday's game coming off of back-to-back home losses against Union and RPI last weekend. Prior to that, the Bears defeated LIU, 3-0, on Dec. 29.
- The Bears are led by Brian Nicholas who has registered 13 points (5-8-13) in 12 games this season. Tyler Kopff (1-8-9), Max Scott (6-2-8) and Alex Pineau (5-2-7) finish off the top-four in scoring for Brown this season.
- In goal, Lawton Zacher ranks fourth in the NCAA in save percentage (.939) and 12th in goals against average (1.89) after being named ECAC Goaltender of the Week on Dec. 30 and ECAC Goaltender of the Month for November.
 
Series History vs. Brown (55-47-3, .538)
The Friars aim to maintain the Mayor's Cup after a 3-0 victory over the Bears last season. Providence has won four-straight at Meehan Auditorium, outscoring Brown 18-1 in those games. The Friars are 7-1-1 over their last nine appearances at Meehan Auditorium with the only loss in that stretch coming when the Friars were ranked No. 1 on Jan. 3, 2016.
 
Svedebäck Named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month
Providence College junior Philip Svedebäck (Växjö, Sweden) was named Stop It Goaltending's Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for December on Friday, January 3. This marks Svedebäck's first-career monthly recognition as a Friar. Svedebäck led all Hockey East goaltenders in December with four wins, assisting the Friars to their current seven-game winning streak. He stopped 79-of-87 shots he faced last month, good for a 2.00 GAA and .908 save percentage. Overall in 2024-25, Svedebäck is 11-2-1 with a 2.24 GAA and .918 save percentage in 14 games played.
 
Eight Former Friars Earn Spots On NHL Opening Night Rosters
The Friars boasted eight alums that appeared on NHL opening night rosters - Noel Acciari (PIT), Jacob Bryson (BUF), Vincent Desharnais (VAN), Brandon Duhaime (WSH), Mark Jankowski (NSH), Kevin Rooney (CGY), Brandon Tanev (SEA) and Jake Walman (SJ).
 
Berard Makes NHL Debut; Stauber Posts First-Career Shutout
Former Friar Brett Berard made his NHL debut for the New York Rangers on Nov. 25, earning an assist against St. Louis. He followed up with his first-career goal the following game at Carolina. Former Friar netminder Jaxson Stauber earned his first NHL shutout and the first shutout in Utah Hockey Club history with a 29-save performance in a 6-0 win at Vegas on Nov. 30.
 
Connelly Wins Gold With the U.S. At The 2025 World Junior Championship
Freshman Trevor Connelly won gold with the United States at 2025 World Junior Championship after their 4-3 overtime win over Finland in the gold medal game on Jan. 5. Connelly finished the tournament with one goal, three assists and a +3 rating over seven games.
 
Leaman Hits Milestone
Head Coach Nate Leaman earned his 249th career victory at Providence on Nov. 11, 2023, passing Lou Lamoriello as the program's winningest head coach all-time. On October 25, 2024, Leaman hit 400 career wins as a Division I head coach in Providence's 3-2 overtime win at Vermont. Leaman is the only Hockey East coach to post a winning record in each of the last 12 seasons.
 
Leading the Pack
Through 19 games this season, Tanner Adams (9-5-14) leads the Friars with nine goals on the year, followed by six from Ryan O'Reilly (6-3-9), Will Elger (6-5-11), Logan Will (6-11-17) and Graham Gamache (6-3-9), Will headlines the team with 11 assists, followed by 10 from both Austen May (0-10-10), Andrew Centrella (2-10-12) and Taige Harding (1-10-11). Overall, Will paces the team with 17 points, followed by 15 from Adams, and 14 from John Mustard (5-9-14). Both Will and Mustard currently ride seven-game point streaks.
 
King of the Hill
Through nine conference matchups, Providence (14-3-2, 5-2-2 HEA) sits in a four-way tie for second place in the Hockey East standings with 17 points, alongside Boston College (12-2-2, 5-2-2 HEA), Boston University (9-6-1, 5-3-1 HEA), and UMass-Lowell (10-4-2, 5-3-1 HEA). Rounding out the top five is Maine (12-2-2, 5-2-2 HEA), who sit in first place with 18 points.
 
Poisson Among Active Leaders
With an assist in the third period against Long Island University on Nov. 23, graduate student Nick Poisson became the 55th member of the program to reach the 100-point milestone. Poisson also scored the game-winning goal in the 4-3 win.
 
Quality Check
After their victory over No. 17 Dartmouth at the Ledyard Classic on Dec. 29, the Friars improved to 5-3-0 in ranked matchups, including a 1-2-0 record in Hockey East action, and are currently riding a four-game win streak over ranked opponents.
 
Mustard Earns Hockey East Player of the Week Honors
Providence College's John Mustard (Oradell, N.J.) was named Hockey East Player of the Week on Monday, December 9, just a week after securing Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week honors. Mustard was instrumental in the sweep over No. 8 Colorado College, as he logged the primary assist on the game-winning goal in Friday's 4-3 win before logging a goal and two assists in Saturday's 5-1 win. With his four point weekend, Mustard extended his point streak to five games (3-5-8).
 
Three is the Magic Number
The Friars are 229-24-25 all-time under Nate Leaman when scoring three or more goals in a game.
 
After 40
The Friars are 204-12-20 all-time under Nate Leaman when holding a lead after two periods.
