The Friars extended their winning streak to eight games.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Zachary Borgiel made 29 saves for his second shutout of the year while Logan Will and Hudson Malinoski scored third-period goals as the No. 5/4 Providence College men's hockey team retained the Mayor's Cup with a 2-0 win over Brown on Tuesday (Jan. 7) at Meehan Auditorium. With the win, the Friars extended their winning streak to eight games.

NOTES

- The teams skated through a scoreless opening 20 minutes of play.

- Borgiel stood tall, turning away all 17 shots he faced in the first period.

- Providence began to take over the momentum in the second period, outshooting the Bears by a 31-12 margin over the final 40 minutes of play.

- The Friars struck just 24 seconds into the third period to take a 1-0 lead on a power-play tally from Logan Will, his seventh goal of the season. Andrew Centrella and Will Elger recorded assists on the play.

- Hudson Malinoski gave the Friars insurance at 13:13 of the third period as he blasted a one-timer on the power play past Shea for his fourth of the season. Guillaume Richard and Logan Sawyer assisted on the goal.

- Borgiel and the Friar defense held the Bears' attack at bay during 3:00 of 6-on-5 play with the goaltender pulled.

- Borgiel earned his second shutout of the season and fourth of his career, stopping all 29 shots he faced.

- Will extended his point streak to eight games (3-6-9) and now has a team-high three power-play goals this season.

- Providence has now won five-consecutive games at Meehan Auditorium and have outscored the Bears by a 20-1 margin in those games with three-consecutive shutouts.

- The Friars closed out their non-conference slate at 10-1-0 and improved to 9-1-1 away from Schneider Arena this season.
