Creighton Uses Strong Third Quarter To Defeat Friars, 60-46

Providence returns to action with back-to-back road games against Butler and DePaul.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Creighton, 60-46, in BIG EAST play on Jan. 4 in Providence, R.I. The Friars dipped to 8-9 overall (1-3 BIG EAST), while the Bluejays improved to 12-3 (4-0 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• Creighton held a 6-2 lead at the media timeout (4:34). Through the first 5:26 of the game, Providence shot 0-7 from the field and Creighton was 2-7.
• Providence didn't convert its first field goal of the game until the 3:36 mark on a lay-in by Sarah Bandoma.
• Emily Archibald scored back-to-back buckets to get Providence within two (10-8) with 37-seconds remaining in the quarter.
• Creighton's Morgan Maly hit a three to close the frame and the Bluejays took a 13-8 lead into the break.
2ND QUARTER:
• Grace Efosa scored four-straight points for Providence to open the third and cut the deficit to one (13-12).
• Providence used a 10-0 run to take its first lead (22-17) lead with 3:44 to play.
• The Friars maintained their lead the remainder of the quarter and took a 26-23 advantage into halftime.
• The Friars' defense held the Bluejays to 16.7-percent shooting from the field in the second quarter (3-18), including 0-7 from beyond the arc.
• Providence shook off a poor shooting performance in the first quarter to hit 50-percent of its attempts in the second quarter (7-14).
• Efosa led all scorers in the first half with eight points and Archibald chipped in seven.
3RD QUARTER:
• Creighton scored the first nine points of the third to regain the lead (32-26), forcing a Providence timeout with 6:56 on the clock.
• The Bluejays extended their scoring run to 15-0 to get the lead to double digits (38-26) at the media timeout.
• Brynn Farrell halted the Jays' run with a reverse lay-up at 3:49.
• It proved to be the Friars' lone points of the quarter as Creighton outscored Providence 23-2 overall to secure a 46-28 lead at the break.
4TH QUARTER:
• Creighton's lead ballooned to 21 (54-33) in the fourth, forcing a Providence timeout with 5:23 left in the game.
• Providence inched back within 13 (58-45) with 1:00 minute remaining.
• The Friars outscored the Bluejays, 18-14, in the quarter but could not overcome their third quarter deficit.
• Creighton won the game, 60-46.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Efosa paced the Friars' offense with eight points, while Archibald and Bandoma each chipped in seven.
• Providence shot a season-low 29.8-percent from the field (17-57).
• The Friars' defense held Creighton to its second-lowest point total of the season and 14.9 points below their season scoring average. The Bluejays scored just 41 vs. No. 1-ranked UCLA.
• Providence won the glass with a 45-36 rebounding advantage.

• The Friars will hit the road for a pair of games against Butler and DePaul next week. Providence will face Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 7:00 p.m. The Friars and Blue Demons will tip-off at 3:00 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, Jan. 12 at Wintrust Arena.
