Women's Hoops Falls To Butler, 57-47

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated by Butler, 57-47, in BIG EAST Conference action on Jan. 8 at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. Providence dropped to 8-10 overall (1-4 BIG EAST), while the Bulldogs improved to 11-7 (1-4 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• Butler started the game on a 7-0 run.
• Olivia Olsen got Providence on the board with a lay-in from the right block at the 6:04 mark, sparking a 9-0 run to claim a 9-7 lead with 4:09 on the clock.
• Olsen scored seven of the Friars' nine points in the run.
• Providence extended its run to 14-2 and led 14-9 at the media timeout (2:35).
• The Friars took a 16-13 lead into the break.
2ND QUARTER:
• Providence outscored Butler 15-10 in the second quarter to take a 31-23 lead at halftime.
• Five Friars registered five-or-more points in the first half, led by Olsen (nine) and Grace Efosa (seven). Efosa added a team-best five rebounds.
• The Friars shot 48-percent in the first half (13-27), including 5-11 from beyond the arc (.417).
3RD QUARTER:
• Butler cut the deficit to four (33-29) midway through the third quarter.
• Providence maintained its lead into the media timeout with 3:58 on the clock (35-29).
• The Bulldogs closed the quarter with a 6-2 scoring advantage to make it a two-point game heading into the final frame (37-35).
• Butler outscored the Friars 12-6 overall in the third as Providence shot just 21-percent from the field (3-14).
4TH QUARTER:
• Marta Morales Romero hit a three on the Friars' first possession of the fourth (40-35).
• Butler responded with back-to-back threes to take its first lead since the 4:51 mark of the first quarter (41-40).
• Brynn Farrell converted a pair of free throws to get help Providence regain the lead (42-41).
• The Bulldogs answered with a 15-2 run to claim their largest lead of the game (56-44) with 58.7-seconds to play.
• Morales Romero hit her third three of the game with 41-seconds remaining to halt a four-minutes scoring drought (56-47).
• The Bulldogs outscored the Friars 34-16 in the second half, including a 22-10 advantage in the fourth quarter.

• Olsen led the Friars with 13 points and added five rebounds, three assists and one blocked shot.
• Morales Romero chipped in 11 points and five rebounds, while Farrell recorded nine points, four rebounds and three assists.
