Orlagh Gormley Named Preseason All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention

Gormley averaged 8.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and a team-best 3.9 assists and 2.5 steals per game last season.

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Providence College junior guard Orlagh Gormely (Quincy, Mass.) was named Preseason All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention on Oct. 1 at the league's annual media day in New York City. Gormley was one of 15 players in the conference to earn preseason recognition. 
 
Last season, Gormley played 32 games with 31 appearances in the starting line-up. She averaged 8.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and a team-best 3.9 assists and 2.5 steals per game. She became the sixth Friar in the last 25 years to record 100+ assists in a single season (126). Additionally, her 79 steals marked the most by a Friar since the 2012-13 campaign and ranks seventh in program history for a single season.
 
In two BIG EAST Tournament games to close the 2025-26 campaign, Gormley averaged 16.0 points, 4.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game. She shot 58-percent from the floor (11-19), including 67-percent from three-point territory (6-9).
 
During the regular-season schedule, Gormley recorded a career-high nine steals vs. DePaul (Jan. 4), to go along with 15 points, five rebounds and five assists. Her nine steals were tied for the most by a BIG EAST player in a single game during the 2025-26 season and marked the most steals by a Friar in a single game since 2009.
 
The BIG EAST also announced its 2026-27 Preseason Poll on Thursday, Oct. 1. Providence was picked to finish seventh (38 points). 
 
Providence is scheduled to host Southern New Hampshire University in an exhibition game on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 7:00 p.m. The Friars will officially open the season on Tuesday, Nov. 3 against Stonehill. The game will tipoff at 7:00 p.m. at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I.
