Graham Gamache scored twice for the Friars on Friday night.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 7/7 Providence College men's ice hockey team skated to a tie with No. 9/9 Connecticut on Friday (Jan. 31) at Schneider Arena. Graham Gamache finished with a pair of goals in the tie. UConn claimed the extra point with a 2-1 win in an eight-round shootout.

NOTES
- Providence opened the scoring 8:26 into the first period, as Logan Sawyer corralled a full-ice pass from Taige Harding in the Huskies' defensive zone before firing on net, beating Muszelik wide blocker-side for the freshman's third goal of the season. Philip Svedebäck earned his second assist of the season on the goal.
- The Huskies had a chance to tie the game with 5:19 to go in the opening period after being awarded a penalty shot, but Svedebäck stood tall to deny the chance, keeping the Friars' 1-0 lead intact. It was the first penalty shot attempt against the Friars since Dec. 6, 2019.
- UConn tied the game at the 9:36 mark in the second period, as Jake Richard beat Svedebäck blocker-side on the power-play to knot the affair at 1-1.
- With 3:10 to play in the second period, forward Graham Gamache collected a pass from Guillaume Richard at the face-off dot before rifling it on net, beating Muszelik high glove-side for his seventh score of the year and putting the Friars ahead 2-1. Will Elger also earned a point on the goal.
- The Huskies knotted the game back up just over five minutes into the third period, as Ryan Tattle redirected a piece of a Nick Carabin shot from the blue line into the back of the net, pulling the score to a 2-2 deadlock.
- UConn nabbed their first lead of the night just over five minutes later, as Ryan Tattle beat Svedebäck tight to the post glove-side for his second of the game and UConn's eighth shorthanded goal of the season.
- The Friars responded just over a minute later, as Graham Gamache recovered the puck behind the Providence net before skating with it through the neutral zone and into UConn's zone, firing on net and beating Muszelik down low for his second of the game.
- Neither team found the back of the net in the overtime period, resulting in a 3-3 tie. The Friars killed off a 4-on-3 UConn power play in the overtime period.
- The Friars opened the shootout period with a round one score from Logan Sawyer, who echoed the puck off the post and in, putting Providence ahead 1-0. UConn secured the extra conference point in a 2-1 shootout win, with goals coming from Jake Richard in the first round and Ethan Whitcomb in the eighth round.
- Philip Svedebäck stood tall in the tie, denying 39-of-42 shots on net before halting six-of-eight shootout attempts, good for a .929 save percentage.
- Five Friars collected a point in the tie, headlined by Graham Gamache's second-career two-goal game.
