Friars Defeated At St. John's, 62-55

Olivia Olsen recorded her sixth double-double of the season on 14 points and 11 boards.
QUEENS, N.Y. – The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated by St. John's, 62-55, on Jan. 29 at Carnesecca Arena. The Friars dropped to 9-14 overall (2-8 BIG EAST), while the Red Storm improved to 12-9 (2-8 BIG EAST). Olivia Olsen recorded a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Grace Efosa finished with 13 points and recorded her 1,000th career point.
1ST QUARTER:
• Providence trailed 7-5 at the first media timeout (4:59). Olsen scored all five of the Friars' points to open the game.
• Kylee Sheppard tied the game, 9-9, on a lay-in with 3:03 remaining in the first quarter.
• St. John's responded with back-to-back threes to claim a 15-9 edge.
• The Red Storm took a 15-10 lead into the intermission.
2ND QUARTER:
• St. John's outscored Providence 8-5 mid-way through the second quarter to claim a 23-15 lead at the media timeout (4:36).
• Providence's defense held St. John's scoreless over the final 6:00 of the quarter.
• The Friars used a 9-0 run during a span of 3:25 to close the half and take a 24-23 lead into the locker room.
• Sheppard scored six of the Friars' nine points in the run. She and Olsen each recorded eight points to lead the offense in the first half.
3RD QUARTER:
• Providence started the third quarter on a 6-0 run to force a St. John's timeout at the 7:35 mark (30-23).
• The Friars extended their run to 11-0 to claim a 35-23 advantage with 6:09 on the clock.
• St. John's ended a scoring drought of just over 10 minutes with a Lashae Dwyer jumper with 5:46 to play.
• The bucket ignited a 15-1 run to help St. John's regain the lead (38-36) with 51-seconds on the clock.
• Efosa converted a traditional three-point play with 27-seconds left on the clock to give the Friars a 39-38 lead heading into the final frame.
4TH QUARTER:
• St. John's used a 7-0 run during a span of 1:49 to claim a 52-43 lead and force a Providence timeout with 4:13 to play.
• Marta Morales Romero knocked down a three out of the timeout to halt the run and make it a 52-46 game with 3:50 left.
• Olsen hit 3-4 attempts from the free throw line to extend the Friars' scoring run to 6-0, getting PC within 52-49 (2:37).
• Skye Owen hit a baseline three for St. John's with 1:09 to play to put the Red Storm ahead 55-49.
• The Friars cut the deficit to three on two occasions in the final 26-seconds, but St. John's sealed the game at the free throw line (6-6) to win, 62-55.
