Three Friars Named 2025 Hobey Baker Award Nominees

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College men's hockey junior goaltender Philip Svedebäck (Växjö, Sweden), senior defenseman Guillaume Richard (Cap-Sante, Que.) and sophomore forward Tanner Adams (Northport, N.Y.) were named as nominees for the 2025 Hobey Baker Award on Wednesday (Jan. 22).
 
Svedebäck was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for December after posting four wins in four games during the month. Overall in 2024-25, Svedebäck is 11-4-1 with a 2.34 GAA and .916 save percentage in 16 games played.
 
Richard has posted seven assists with a team-high 31 blocks this season while logging a team-high 22:20 average ice time per game. In 124 career games at Providence, Richard has recorded seven goals and 40 assists for 47 points with a +18 rating.
 
Adams leads the Friars in goals with nine and ranks second on the team in scoring with 15 points this season. He ranks second on the team in game-winning goals with two. In 57 career games as a Friar, Adams has totaled 36 points on 15 goals and 21 assists.
 
Fan voting for the Hobey Baker Award is now live and will run through March 9. Phase two of fan voting will begin on March 19 after the announcement of the top-10 nominees. The Hobey Hat Trick finalists will be revealed on April 3 with the 2025 Hobey Baker Award winner being announced on Friday, April 11, 2025 during the NCAA Frozen Four in St. Louis, Mo. Award criteria include candidates exhibiting the exceptional character traits of the award's namesake, Hobey Baker. A legendary American hero, Baker was a World War I fighter pilot and was known as America's greatest amateur athlete in his day, excelling at hockey and football at Princeton University. Award candidates must demonstrate strength of character both on and off the ice, contribute to the integrity of his team and display outstanding skills in all phases of the game. Consideration should be given to scholastic achievement and sportsmanship.
