Men’s And Women’s Track Teams Compete At URI Invitational

Friars capture the men’s and women’s 500 meters with victories by Brett Lehman and Jill Fenerty.

KINGSTON, R.I. – The Providence College men's and women's indoor track teams competed on Saturday, Jan. 18 at the University of Rhode Island Invitational in Kingston, R.I.  The women's team was led by junior Jill Fenerty (Franklin, Mass.), who won the women's 500 meters in a time of 1:17.27.  The men's squad was paced by senior Brett Lehman (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.).  Lehman captured the men's 500 meters (1:05.50).

Freshman Chloe Higgins (Morristown, N.J.) also earned a first-place finish as she won the 200 meters in a time of 26.06.  Also in the 200, freshman Keira Kelly (Scotch Plains, N.J.) placed second (26.22).

Junior Elena Cabral (Somerset, Mass.) had a strong race in the 400, finishing third in a time of 1:00.12.

On the men's side, graduate student Josh Lewin (West Chester, Pa.) followed Lehman in the 500 meters as he was second in a time of 1:05.64.

In the 1,000 meters, the Friars earned the second and third place finishes with freshman Daniel Prescott (Christchurch, New Zealand) placing second (2:28.48) and Zane Powell (Auckland, New Zealand) finishing third (2:29.26).

Junior Grady Satterfield (Bowdoinham, Maine) finished second in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:46.77.

The Friar 4 x 800 meter relay team of freshman Thomas Breen (Providence, R.I.), senior Aidan Higley (Wilmington, Del.), freshman Thomas Hunt (Berkley Heights, N.J.) and freshman Liam O'Neill (Natick, Mass.) earned a third-place finish (7:59.09) in the 4 X 800 meter relay.

The Friars return to action on Jan. 31- Feb. 1 at the Boston University Terrier Classic in Boston, Mass.
