Olivia Olsen Powers Friars To 51-45 Victory Over Xavier With 21 Points And 10 Rebounds

Olsen recorded her team-best fifth double-double of the season.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Olivia Olsen recorded a season-high 21 points and added 10 rebounds to power the Providence women's basketball team to a 51-45 victory over Xavier on Jan. 15 in Providence, R.I. The Friars improved to 9-11 on the season (2-5 BIG EAST), while the Musketeers dipped to 5-12 (0-6 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• Providence started the game with an 8-0 run before Xavier hit its first field goal of the game at the 5:15 mark (8-2).
• The Friars led 10-4 at the first media timeout (3:28) and Brynn Farrell tacked on a pair of free throws out of the break to claim a 12-4 edge.
• Farrell scored 10 points in the first quarter to help the Friars gain a 14-6 lead after 10 minutes of play.
2ND QUARTER:
• Providence got out to a nine-point lead (18-9) at the 4:33 mark.
• The Friars led by six (24-18) with 46-seconds remaining in the quarter.
• Xavier went on a 8-0 run in the final 35-seconds to claim a 26-24 at halftime.
• Farrell led all scorers with 12 points at the half. She shot 3-4 from the field and 5-5 from the foul line.
3RD QUARTER:
• Xavier struck first offensively in the third, but Providence responded with a 8-0 run to regain the lead (32-28) and force Musketeer timeout with 4:44 on the clock.
• Olivia Olsen scored six of the Friars' eight points in the spurt.
• Xavier converted an and-1 to halt its scoring drought with 4:19 on the clock
• Providence closed the quarter with a 5-2 scoring advantage, with all five points coming from Olsen.
• Olsen scored 11 points in the third quarter overall on 5-6 shooting and added three rebounds, two steals, one block and one assist.
4TH QUARTER:
• The Friars used an 8-0 run during a span of three and a half minutes to claim a 45-36 lead with 5:32 to play.
• Providence took its largest lead of the game with 33-seconds left in regulation (49-39).
• Xavier went on a 6-0 run, draining two threes in a span of seven seconds, to get within four (49-45) with 14-seconds to play.
• Grace Efosa converted two free throws with 11-seconds left to close out the game and a Friars win (51-45).
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Olsen recorded a season-high 21 points on 9-13 shooting, marking her first 20+ point game of the season and third of her career.
• She added 10 rebounds, two blocks, two steals and one assist.
• Olsen has five double-doubles on the season and 21 in her career.
• Farrell finished the night with 14 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and one blocked shot.
• Efosa was held to single digits for just the fifth time this season (five points), but hauled in eight rebounds and added two assists and one steal.
• Providence's defense held Xavier to 28.8-percent shooting from the field (17-59).
• The Friars have won five-straight games against Xavier and now lead the all-time series, 12-11.
