Women's Hoops Defeated By Georgetown In BIG EAST play, 60-48

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Georgetown, 60-48, in BIG EAST play on Jan. 18 in Providence, R.I. The Friars dropped to 9-12 on the season (2-6 BIG EAST), while the Hoyas improved to 9-9 (2-5 BIG EAST).
1st QUARTER:
• Georgetown started the game on a 12-0 run.
• Grace Efosa hit a three from the top of the key for Providence's first bucket at the 5:13 mark (12-3).
• The Hoyas responded with a 7-0 run to claim a 19-3 lead with 3:59 on the clock.
• Providence fell behind by 17 before using a 5-0 spurt to get within 12.
• The Hoyas took a 24-10 advantage into the break.
2ND QUARTER:
• Providence used an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 29-24 with 4:04 on the clock.
• Nariah Scott contributed seven of the Friars' eight points in the run, eclipsing her season-high of five points.
• The Friars' defense held the Hoyas scoreless for a span of 3:45 until Khadee Hession converted a pair of free throws as the 2:34 mark (31-24).
• Providence outscored Georgetown 16-11 overall in the quarter and went into halftime trailing, 35-26.
• Scott scored 10 points in the quarter on 4-5 shooting from the field, including 2-2 from beyond the arc.
• Ariel Jenkins paced Georgetown in the first half with 16 points and six rebounds.
3RD QUARTER:
• The Friars closed within six (35-29) as Olivia Olsen opened the third with a three.
• Georgetown countered with a 17-8 scoring advantage the remainder of the quarter to take a 52-37 lead into the final frame.
4TH QUARTER:
• Efosa and Brynn Farrell opened the fourth with back-to-back buckets, forcing a Georgetown timeout with 7:46 on the clock (52-41).
• Providence extended the run to 6-0 to inch within single digits (52-43).
NOTES / HIGHTLIGHTS:
• Scott and Efosa each finished with a team-best 10 points.
• Efosa added a team-best eight rebounds, while Scott dished a team-best three assists.
• Georgetown won the glass with a 39-29 rebounding advantage, including 15 offensive boards.

• The Friars will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 22 against Marquette for the program's annual Project Providence game. Tip-off is slated for 11:00 a.m. at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The game will be broadcast live on BEDN / FloCollege.
