Providence College Volleyball Defeated At Marquette In Straight Sets
The Friars will host Seton Hall and Georgetown in their BIG EAST home opener next weekend.
MILWAUKEE, WIS.– The Providence College volleyball team was defeated by Marquette in straight sets (3-0) to close out the opening weekend of BIG EAST play.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Marquette earned a 25-10 victory in the first set.
- Marquette jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead.
- The Golden Eagles extended their lead to 13-6 and forced Providence to call a timeout.
- Marquette went on a 12-4 run to win the set, 25-10.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Marquette won the second set, 25-19.
- The two teams went back-and-forth to reach a 4-4 tie.
- Marquette went on a 6-1 run to take a 10-5 lead and forced the Friars to call a timeout.
- The Friars stayed within striking distance as the scored reached 18-13.
- The Golden Eagles maintained their lead throughout the set and won 25-19.
- Macy Taylor led the Friars with seven digs through two sets.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Marquette took the third set, 25-15, to win the match.
- Marquette got out to a 9-1 lead and forced Providence to take a timeout.
- The Golden Eagles extended their lead to 15-7.
- Later in the set, the Friars had back-to-back kills to bring the score to 22-12.
- Marquette maintained its lead to win the match in straight sets.
MATCH NOTES:
- Kayla Grant led the offense with five kills.
- Macy Taylor recorded 10 digs.
- The Friars notched 23 kills, 47 digs and five blocks.
