The Friars will host St. John’s University on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 6:00 p.m. and Butler Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1:00 p.m.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's soccer team is set to begin BIG EAST play at home versus St. John's University on Friday, Sept. 26 at 6:00 p.m. The match will be played on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. and will be streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network. The Friars will then take on Butler on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. The game will be streamed on FloSports.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS... The Friars enter the week with a 3-4-1 record. Providence has early season wins over Rhode Island, 1-0, Holy Cross, 2-1 and Northeastern, 3-2. The Friars went 0-1-0 last week, falling to Columbia on Friday, 4-0.
Graduate student Kacey Lawrence (Monroe, Conn.) leads the Friars' offense with nine points through eight games. Lawrence owns a team-best three goals and three assists.
Freshman Kristin Middaugh (Lancaster, N.Y.) has scored two goals for the Friars this season.
Freshman Stephanie Schoeley (Thedford, Ontario), sophomore Marryn Gruhn (Northport, N.Y.) and junior Alanna Coffie (Warwick, R.I.) have each scored one goal for the Friars.
Goalkeepers Emma Bodmer (Monroe Township, N.J.) and Ellie Thallman (Northville, Mich.) have shared time in net this season. Bodmer has started eight games for the Friars logging 480 minutes. This season she has maintained a 0.688 save percentage. Thallman has appeared in five games logging 225 minutes for the Friars and a 0.667 save percentage.
TWO MEMBERS OF THE FRIARS QUALIFIED FOR THE 2024 FIFA UNDER-20 WORLD CUP… Junior Ella McBride (Peterborough, Canada) and Sophomore Kayla Briggs (Toronto, Canada) qualified for the U-20 FIFA World Cup 2024 and represented Canada's National Team. McBride recorded one goal and two assists on the tournament. Briggs scored two goals and recorded one assist for Canada.
KAYLA BRIGGS NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST TEAM... Kayla Briggs received preseason recognition as a member of the Preseason ALL-BIG EAST Team. The BIG EAST released its 2024 Preseason Coaches' Poll and preseason honors Tuesday (Aug. 13).
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST ST. JOHN'S... The Friars hold an 18-18-6 all-time record against the Red Storm. In their last meeting, the Friars won 3-1 in Providence, R.I. in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals 2023.
SCOUTING THE RED STORM... St. John's enters Thursday's contest with a 5-1-3 record. The Red Storm are 0-0-1 in BIG EAST play after tying UConn on Sunday Sept. 22, 3-3.
Senior Jordyn Levy leads the Red Storm this season with 10 points on five goals scored. Levy was selected to the BIG EAST Honor Roll last week (Sept. 23) after scoring one goal against UConn. Senior Jailene DeJesus has contributed six points on two goals and two assists for St. John's. Freshman Nora Basile was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week last week (Sept. 23) after scoring her first career goal against UConn. Goalies Malene Nielsen and Kayla Bower have split time in net this season for St. John's. Nielsen has tallied 553 minutes in nine games played. She holds a 0.862 save percentage with 25 saves and four goals allowed. Bower has added 256 minutes in five games. She holds a 0.769 save percentage this season with 10 saves and three goals allowed.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST BUTLER... The Friars hold a 3-10-2 all-time record against the Bulldogs. In their last meeting, the match ended in a 1-1 draw in Indianapolis Ind. in 2023.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS... Butler enters the week with a 6-2-1 record and will face DePaul before traveling to Providence. The Bulldogs are 1-0-0 in BIG EAST play after defeating Marquette on Sunday, Sept. 22, 1-0.
Junior Talia Sommer leads Butler this season with 13 points on five goals and three assists. Graduate Abigail Isger contributed eight points on three goals and two assists for the Bulldogs. Junior Amelie Darey was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week last week (Sept. 23) after scoring against Marquette last week. Darey has recorded five points on two goals, and one assist this season. Goalie Anna Pierce has started in all nine games for the Red Storm this season. She holds a 0.742 save percentage on 23 saves and eight goals allowed. Pierce was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll last week (Sept. 23).
UP NEXT... The Friars will visit UConn on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 7:00 p.m. The match will be played on Joseph J. Morrone Stadium at the Rizza Performance Center in Storrs, Conn.
