Men’s Soccer Opens BIG EAST Play At Home Against No. 8 Seton Hall

The Friars will host the Pirates on Friday, Sept. 20 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium at 7:00 p.m.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College men's soccer team (4-2-1) will host the undefeated Seton Hall Pirates (6-0) to open BIG EAST play on Friday, Sept. 20 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. The match will kick-off at 7:00 p.m. and will stream on the BIG EAST Digital Network.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS (4-2-1)
The Friars enter the match with a 4-2-1 overall record.
 
Last week, the Friars split their matches against two Rhode Island opponents, finishing with a 1-1 mark. The team fell to URI, 1-0, on September 9 but bounced back with a 2-1 comeback victory at Bryant on September 14.
 
This will mark the Friars' first game this season versus a ranked opponent.
 
During the 2023 season, Providence has recorded a 1-1-1 record against ranked teams, including a perfect 1-0 mark at home. The Friars upset then-ranked No.5 Georgetown 1-0 on Chapey Field.
 
KEY PLAYERS
Graduate student Pepe Lora (Madrid, Spain) has had an outstanding debut season with the Friars. Lora has recorded a team-high three goals, which includes two game-winners. Junior Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal) follows close behind with two goals and one assist on the season so far. Rosa scored the equalizing goal in the Friars' 2-1 comeback win at Bryant.
 
BIG EAST Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year, Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.) has played all 630 minutes in the net for PC. Burns has recorded two clean sheets and 19 saves over the seven games. He currently boasts a 0.76 save percentage and 0.89 goals against average.
 
All eight Friar goals this season have come from transfer students. Lora, Rosa, Harry Scarborough (Wigan, England), Aidan Davock (Medway, Mass.) and Kevin Castañeda (Providence, R.I.) have all recorded goals this season.

SCOUTING THE PIRATES (6-0)
Seton Hall enters the week ranked No. 8 in the nation per the United Soccer Coaches Poll (Sept. 17).  Last week, the team secured two victories, defeating Rutgers, 3-1, and Harvard, 3-2. The team's ranking is the second highest they have held during a non-abbreviated season since the 2002 season when they earned the No. 6 spot in the Sept. 2, 2002 poll.  The Pirates are seeking their first 7-0-0 start to a season since 1986.
 
KEY PLAYERS
Til Kauschke, Jared Smith and Jack Kossoudji lead the Pirate offense in points with five a piece. Kauscke and Kossoudji earned BIG EAST Weekly Honors this week (Sept. 16) with a combined seven points over the two games last week. Kossoudji was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and Kauschke was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
 
Graduate student Kossoudji had a four-point week, contributing to the Pirates' undefeated streak with an assist on the game-winning goal against Rutgers and both an assist and the game-winning goal in their victory over Harvard. Kossoudji currently boasts a team-high three assists.
 
Rookie Kauschke earned three points last week after assisting on the game-winning goal at Rutgers and scoring a goal against Harvard. This marks his second BIG EAST Freshman of the Week recognition.
 
Nine Pirates have scored a goal this season. Four of them have recorded at least one assist.
 
Goalkeepers Soren Jensen and Matias Molina have split equal time in the net for Seton Hall, each appearing in three games. Jensen has allowed three goals across three games, recorded 10 saves and boasts 1.00 goals against average and a 0.769 save percentage. Molina has conceded only one goal this season, tallied five saves and holds a 0.33 goals against average and a .833 save percentage.
 
UP NEXT…
The Friars will face inner-city rival Brown University (2-2-1) on Tuesday, Sept. 24 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. The match is slated for 7:00 p.m. and will stream on FloSports.
 
The Bears hold a 18-10-9 all-time series edge over the Friars. The last matchup between Brown and Providence ended in a 1-1 draw last season. The Friars' most recent home victory over the Bears was in 2019, with a 1-0 win.
