PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College volleyball defeated Stonehill in four sets (3-1) on Saturday, September 14 in Providence, R.I. The Friars went 3-0 on the weekend to improve to 5-3. With the win over the Stonehill Skyhawks, the Friars captured the 2024 Friar Classic.

Jiji Lykins and
Miller McDonald received All-Tournament honors.Â

FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence earned a 25-11 victory in the first set.
- Providence jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead to begin the match.
- The Skyhawks fought back to close the score to 12-9.
- The Friars went on a 5-0 rally to extend their lead to 17-9, forcing Stonehill to call timeout.
- Coming out of the timeout Stonehill got two quick kills to narrow the score to 17-11.
- Providence was able to maintain its lead throughout the set and win 25-11.
- Lykins recorded seven digs in the first set.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Friars won the second set, 26-24.
- The two teams went back-and-forth to reach a tie score of 4-4 to begin the set.
- The Skyhawks went on a 4-0 run to take an 8-4 advantage, forcing Providence to call a timeout.
- Coming out of the timeout Providence fought back to close the score to 9-7.
- Stonehill went on a 7-2 rally to extend its lead to 16-9.
- The Friars fought back to close the score to 17-15, prompting Stonehill to call a timeout.
- Stonehill went on a 3-1 run to extend their lead to 20-16.
- The Friars went on a 3-0 run to tie the match 20-20.
- Providence completed the comeback and won the set 26-24.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â Stonehill took the third set, 25-21.
- The two teams traded points to start the set, ending up tied at 6-6.
- The Skyhawks went on a 6-1 run to take a 12-7 advantage and forced Providence to take a timeout.
- Stonehill was able to extend its lead to 17-9.
- The Friars went on a 6-0 run to narrow Stonehill's lead to 17-15. Â Â Â
- The Skyhawks went on a 6-2 run to bring the score to 23-17.
- Providence answered with a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 23-21, forcing Stonehill to take a timeout.
- Stonehill maintained its lead to win the set 25-21.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â The Friars won the fourth set, 25-19 to win the match, 3-1.
- The two teams went back-and-forth to reach a tie score of 4-4 to begin the set.
- Providence went on a 7-3 run to take an 11-7 advantage.
- The Friars extended their lead to 19-12 and forced the Skyhawks to call a timeout.
- Â Stonehill fought back to narrow the Friars lead to 22-19.
- The Friars maintained their lead to win the set 25-19 and the match 3-1.
MATCH NOTES:
- Shaliyah Rhoden led the Friars with 15 kills.
- Lykins led Providence with 23 digs.
- Addy Frye notched three aces for the Friars.
- The Friars recorded 54 kills, 67 digs, and eight aces.

The Providence College Volleyball Team will be on the road next weekend for the Dartmouth Tournament in Dartmouth, N.H. The Friars will face off against Dartmouth College on Friday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m. and will play Siena College at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Providence will finish the weekend playing Quinnipiac University on Sunday, September 22. The Friars will open up BIG EAST play at Creighton on Friday, September 27 at 7:00 p.m.
