Volleyball Set To Host 19th Annual Friar Classic

The Friars will kick off the tournament against Saint Peter’s on Sept. 13 at 2:30 p.m.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College volleyball team is set to host the 19th Annual Friar Volleyball Classic on September 13-14 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The first day of the tournament will feature three matches, followed by three matches on the final day. The Friars will be joined by Saint Peter's University, Columbia University and Stonehill College.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS… The Friars are entering the tournament with a 2-3 record. Most recently, Providence participated in the Ocean State Cup, where it compiled a 1-2 record.
 
Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) leads the Friars' offense in kills, with 40. This past weekend she notched 23 kills through three matches.
 
Jiji Lykins (Coral Spring, Fla.) leads the team in digs with a total of 61. At the Ocean State Cup she recorded 30 digs and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
 
Audrey Kocon (Shoreview, Minn.) leads the team with eight service aces. She also has notched 35 kills, 36 digs, 75 assists and 14 blocks.
 
SCOUTING SAINT PETER'S:
Saint Peter's returns to the Friar Classic this year with a record of 1-0. The Peacocks most recently defeated NJIT (3-2).
 
Sophomore Maliyah Labrie leads the Peacocks' offense with 23 kills, followed by senior Penelope Rivera with 18.

 Freshman Lagean Colon has a team-high 25 digs and is averaging five digs per set.

 Junior Elena Bilhartz is currently leading Saint Peter's in blocks, with nine.
 
SCOUTING COLUMBIA… Columbia enters the Friar Classic with a 1-2 record. This past weekend the Lions hosted the Big Apple Tournament, where they went 1-2, defeating Manhattan in straight sets.
 
Senior Hailee Watts has a team-high 27 kills. She is averaging 2.70 kills a set. Junior Eva Atkins ranks second on the team in kills (25).
 
Junior Presley Liberty leads the defense in digs, with 20.
 
Junior Ruby van der Heide has added 19 digs and 42 assists for the Lions. 
 
SCOUTING STONEHILL… Stonehill enters the tournament with a 2-5 record. The Skyhawks most recently played in the Harvard Invitational, where they defeated Merrimack and fell to Havard and New Hampshire.
 
Junior Mia Berardino leads the team in kills, with 70.
 
Two sophomores, Sarah Frager and Maddie Schamaun, lead the Skyhawks with 41 digs each.
 
Sophomore Abby Farrell has registered a team-high 15 services aces, with five of those coming against Merrimack.
 
WHATS NEXT… The Friars will head to Dartmouth, N.H., on September 20-22 to compete in the Dartmouth Tournament. Providence will face Dartmouth College on Friday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m. and Siena College on Saturday, September 21 at 4:00 p.m. To close out the weekend, the Friars will play Quinnipiac University on Sunday, September 22 at 1:00 p.m. Following this tournament, the Friars will begin BIG EAST play at Creighton on September 27 at 7:00 p.m.
