Field Hockey Completes Four-Game Homestand This Week With Dartmouth And No. 17 Boston College

Providence welcomes Dartmouth on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 3:00 p.m.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team will complete a four-game home-stand this week with two non-conference matches at Lennon Family Field vs. Dartmouth on Thursday, Sept. 12 and against No. 17 Boston College on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1:00 p.m.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE (2-2):
• The Friars enter the weekend with a 2-2 overall record, having earned a split during each of the last two weekends.
• Providence has earned its two victories over Bryant (2-1) and Stonehill (3-0).
• The win vs. Bryant marked Head Coach Diane Madl's 200th victory at Providence.
• In Providence's most recent game, it fell to No. 12 Boston College, 8-1. 
• Graduate student Ally DeCoste scored three goals in two games last week and earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition. Her two tallies vs. Stonehill marked the third multi-goal game of her career.
• DeCoste leads the Friars in scoring overall this season with eight points on four goals. 
Bella DelNegro is second on the team in scoring with three points on one goal and one assist.
Cami Crook joins DeCoste and DelNegro in the goal-scoring column this season. She tallied the game-winning goal vs. Bryant with nine minutes remaining in regulation.
• Sophomore Florencia Talarico ranks first on the team in assists, with two.
• Providence College posted a 10-8 overall record in 2023, including a 3-4 mark in the BIG EAST Conference.
• The Friars returned 17 players from the 2023 campaign, including eight players with substantial experience in the starting line-up.
• Of the 25 active players on the roster, the team is comprised of five graduate students, six seniors, two juniors, seven sophomores and five freshmen.
• As a team, the Friars scored 44 goals last year. It marked the most goals in a season since 2014 (66).
• The Friars return four players who registered double digits in the points column last season, including their top two scorers in DeCoste and Celia Preveza. DeCoste recorded 21 points on nine goals and three assists, while Preveza notched 16 points on six goals and four assists.
• Through four games this season, Preveza has registered one assist.
• DeCoste ranks 36th on the Friars' all-time scoring list (44 points) and tied for 30th all-time in goals scored (18).
• DelNegro was the Friars' assist leader last season (seven). She recorded 11 points overall on two goals and seven assists.
• Graduate student Asia Porter has played 238 minutes in the cage for Providence this season and has compiled a 2.77 goals against average and a 0.542 save percentage.
• The Friars picked up two graduate transfers during the off-season, including Caroline Guden (Stanford) and Ally Kennedy (Vermont), both of whom are Massachusetts natives. Guden is from Waltham, Mass. and is the niece of former Friar great, Cathy Guden '94, who was a three-time All-American for the Friars. Kennedy is from Watertown, Mass. and is the sister of current Providence assistant coach Kourtney Kennedy
• Talarico was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team on Aug. 27. She is one of three sophomores to earn a spot on the preseason team. Last year, Talarico claimed BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and All-BIG EAST Second Team accolades. She became the third freshman in program history to earn the league's top rookie honor, joining Manon van Weezel (2017) and Paula Wagoner (1994).
• Talarico finished her freshman season with 10 points on two goals and six assists. She ranked second on the team in assists. 
 
SCOUTING DARTMOUTH (0-2):
• Dartmouth enters Thursday's match against Providence College with a 0-2 record. 
• The Big Green fell to Lafayette, 3-0, it their season opener on Sept. 6. Dartmouth followed with a 6-0 loss at UMass on Sept. 8.
• Lucia Campano is Dartmouth's top-returning scorer from the 2023 season. In 15 games, she tallied 19 points on eight goals and three assists.
• The Big Green return five of the nine players that scored at least one goal in 2023. 
• Isabel Andrews has played 112 minutes in the cage for Dartmouth and owns a 4.27 goals against average and a 0.724 save percentage. She has faced a total of 44 shot attempts, has collected 21 saves and allowed eight goals.
• Dartmouth has been out-shot 46-8 through two games this season and have earned six penalty corners, compared to 15 for its opponents.
 
SCOUTING #17 BOSTON COLLEGE (2-2):
• The Eagles are 2-2 on the season, with their losses coming against No. 4 Maryland (2-0) and top-ranked Northwestern (1-0).
• Boston College started the season with victories over Northeastern (3-1) and Boston University (6-0).
• BC will host Maine on Friday, Sept. 13 prior to facing Providence on Sunday to close the weekend.
• Six different Eagles have scored at least one goal this season, led by Peyton Hale's three goals. She also has added one assist for a team-best seven points.
• Yani Zhong is second on the team in scoring with six points on two goals and two assists. 
• Charlotte Kramer as started all four games in the cage or Boston College and has played a total of 207 minutes. She has compiled a 1.16 goals against average and a 0.765 save percentage.
