Men’s Soccer Defeated At Hofstra, 2-0

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.- The Providence College men's soccer team (1-1-1 ) was defeated by the Hofstra Pride (2-0-1), 2-0, in a non-conference matchup on Thursday, Aug. 29 in Hempstead, N.Y. Junior midfielder Diego Batista (Barcelos, Portugal) led the Friar offense with two shots on goal.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
• Hofstra gained a 1-0 lead in the first half.
• Batista recorded the Friars' first shot on goal in the 73rd minute, taking a strike from the top of the box that deflected off the crossbar.
• The Pride scored another goal late in the second half to take a 2-0 advantage.

UP NEXT
The Friars will travel to Amherst, Mass., to play the UMass Minutemen (0-0-2) on Monday, Sept. 2. Kick-off is slated for 4:00 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.

This will be the Friars' first time on the Minutemen's home turf since 1994 when Providence fell, 3-0, to UMass under former Head Coach Bill Doyle. UMass holds an 11-10 all-time series advantage over PC. In their most recent matchup last season, the Friars were defeated, 3-2, by the Minutemen on Sept. 9, 2023 in Providence, R.I.
